Short summary

Sheldon and Amy have decided to take their relationship to the next level... by purchasing a pet together, namely a turtle. That step takes a giant leap backward when Sheldon divulges that he has submitted an application to be among the first people to colonize Mars, something he did not discuss with Amy before doing so. She is more upset by the fact that it was a unilateral decision on his part than by the decision itself. Is there any way Sheldon can make it right with her? Meanwhile, Leonard gives Penny a late Valentine's Day present that he bought at the sex shop: body paint and canvas so that they can make their own painting using their naked bodies as the brushes. Both the process and the final product aren't quite what they were expecting. And Emily is called on a short emergency to the hospital leaving Raj alone at her apartment. He does something that might end their relationship, with Howard and Bernadette not providing much help or guidance on how to fix the problem, both ...

Instead of Mr. Lorre's usual vanity card, the credits end with a tribute to Leonard Nimoy, who died on 27 February, 2015. The tribute reads:

"The impact you had on our show and on our lives is everlasting."

At the pet store, when Sheldon squats down to look at the turtle, Mr. Spocks blue science officers uniform can be seen behind him hanging on the wall.

There actually is a not for profit organization call Mars One that took open applications to anyone in the world interested in being part in being on a 4 man crew to Mars. Their plan is to send an unmanned space craft in 2020... and a manned crew in 2026.

This is the first time we see Leonard wearing glasses with actual lens in it (when sheldon throws a pie at him) Previously in every episode he just wore the frames. So did Bernadette and Amy.

Title Reference: The title refers to the application Sheldon is making to become one of the first colonists on Mars.

This episode was taped on February 10, 2015.

One of the rare occasions where we see the wall that the computers and TV sit against. We see it during Sheldon's Mar's application video when he throws the pie in Leonard's face.
