Short summary

Leonard and Penny have decided to start dating each other again, but Penny is worried that any little glitch in their second time around will stall or halt them getting back together. As such, Leonard proposes that they follow a computer software development process model, where each party directly involved in the development process provides constructive comments on the "product" i.e their relationship, so that they collectively can fix the problems before the product goes into the next phase of external testing. Penny agrees. However, the comments that each provides in and of themselves end up being viewed hypercritically by the person being criticized, and thus may halt the process in its tracks unless the critic can delve deeper into the psyche of the criticized, which in turn may have its own unintentional consequence. Meanwhile, Raj has started "dating" Siri, the voice of his new smart phone's voice recognition system. And Sheldon, with Amy's assistance, decides to host a once a...

Becky O'Donohue provides the voice of Siri, and portrays her as an actual woman in Raj's nightmare.

During his reseach on flag information for his show "Fun with Flags", Sheldon finds out that during the 1936 Summer Olympics, Liechtenstein did come to the realization that its flag was identical to the flag of Haiti. Because of this finding, the government added the prince's crown to the canton. This change served two purposes, to signify Liechtenstein's position as a principality, and to "distinguish" its flag from Haiti's. This modified design was adopted on June 24, 1937.

This episode was watched by 16.13 million viewers with a rating on 5.5 in adults 18-49, and it was the first scripted series to beat American Idol in total viewers and adults 18-49 ratings since Friends ended in 2004.

One of the questions that Sheldon poses at the start of his "Fun with Flags" video blog is which is the only non-rectangular flag. The answer is the flag of Nepal, which takes the form of two triangles placed one on top of the other, similar to a double pennant.

The flag on the right side of Sheldon and Amy's video is the apartment flag that Sheldon had made and is first seen in "The Staircase Implementation".

Worldwide, Apple's Siri is also available in both a multiple male and female voice version, in turn with localised accents, such as UK English, Australian English, as well as the more obvious non-English languages. This fact is likely to confuse some viewers that don't realise that the female Siri in "The Big Bang Theory" is the American English Female voice over at the time of production.

The title is derived from Leonard and Penny discussing the possibility of starting a relationship again, and Leonard's subsequent suggestion that they can start by treating the relationship like a beta test and give "bug reports" to each other, to maintain complete honesty between them.

Vexillology is the study of flags.

In the opening of "fun with flags" Sheldon states, "unlike the flag at Fort Sumter, I am still here". He should have said Fort McHenry, as mentioned in the National Anthem. "...our flag was still there." Sheldon says "like," not "unlike." He is not referring to the flag at Ft. McHenry as mentioned in the National Anthem, but rather the flag at Fort Sumter which was raised on April 14, 1865 as part of the celebration of the Union victory - it still stands today.

Sheldon asks which is the only country with a non-rectangular flag. However, there are two. Nepal, which comprises of two triangles, and Switzerland which is actually square.

Though she supposedly is not a free spirit willing to wear costumes, Amy does not object to dressing up as a giant pretzel when filming the "Fun With Flags" podcast about the Bavarian flag.

Penny and Leonard begin seeing each other again in this one.

In this episode, while watching Doctor Who, Amy makes a comment that the Doctor "sure does have a thing for modern-day London." Most episodes of Doctor Who are filmed in Cardiff, Wales.

In this ep of "The Big Bang Theory": Sheldon and Amy are trying to start a TV show called "Fun with Flags", Leonard and Penny start dating again and critique each others quirks, and Raj has a love fest with his cell phone "Ciri"! Yeah, you read that last one right as Raj keeps asking personal questions of "her" and he's satisfied with the replies, no matter how impersonal they are! And look, Kripke (John Ross Bowie) has his own "Ciri" who can never understand him when he asks to "wecomend westauwant"! Oh, and how creeped out does Bernadette get when she and Howard are on a "double dinner date" with Raj and "Ciri"! In summation, "The Bata Test Initiation" was another hilarious ep of "The Big Bang Thoery".
