Short summary

Everyone on Earth gets $300 after the spoils of a military victory are distributed. The members of the Planet Express staff spend it on different things, with varying degrees of success.

Running gag: the kids at the Orphanarium have constant bad luck on their field trips. They were sitting first row when Mushu the Whale started vomiting.

After spending his refund on a meal for penniless bums, Dr. Zoidberg is referred to as "Oysters Rockefeller." The joke has a double meaning, referring to both the fancy - and generally expensive - seafood dish (playing off Zoidberg's crustacean background), and the affluent Rockefeller name. Oil tycoon and real estate mogul John D. Rockefeller's fortune at the time of his death accounted for 1.5% of the entire U.S. economy, making him the richest man in U.S. history. (Incidentally, "Oysters Rockefeller" are so named after the same John D. Rockefeller, because the sauce was so "rich".)

The "Geneworks S.K.G." sign Kif and Amy fly over, to change the scene to the Professor buying Steam Cells, is a reference to "Dreamworks S.K.G."

This is the first time Morbo's wife is seen.

Zapp Brannigan's full military rank includes the designation "Webelo". It is the highest rank in the Cub Scouts, the junior division of the Boy Scouts of America. "WeBeLoS" is an acronym meaning "We'll Be Loyal Scouts". The name originally stood for the cub scout ranks "Wolf, Bear, Lion, Scout", before the rank of "Lion Cub Scout" was dropped in 1967.

In the scene where the 99 cent store sign is being replaced with a new $299.99 sign, Hermes can be seen walking into the store, presumably to purchase the Bamboo Boogie Boots.

This episode opens with scenes of Zapp's latest victory; Earth's forces defeat the peaceful Spider-creatures and seize their precious silk. To celebrate the conquest President Nixon gives everybody on Earth a $300 dollar tax rebate. With their new found wealth the crew each decide how they will treat themselves; Amy buys a talking tattoo, Bender buys some burglary tools so he can steal a $10,000 dollar cigar and Leela decides to go swimming with a whale at the aquarium... Fry meanwhile just buys coffee... and gets very twitchy! Their various purchases lead to plenty of funny moments culminating in a gala evening where people are invited to see the silken loot; inevitably things go wrong but when they do rescue comes from an unlikely direction.

This was another good episode with plenty of amusing gag; I particularly liked the drug addict who left his crack house for a crack mansion and Zoidberg's reaction to 'rich person' food. The story was pretty good and it was nice how the crew's separate purchases came together to cause the various events to occur rather than just being a series of separate gags. As well as the regular cast it was nice to see secondary characters such as Zapp, Kif and Nixon making entertaining appearances; Kif in particular takes a leading role.
