» » Andromeda A Heart for Falsehood Framed (2000–2005)

Short summary

While docked at Peirpont Drift, a cop recognizes Beka and Seamus and notes that they are wanted for various crimes, but for some reason does not arrest them. Meanwhile, Dylan tries to mediate a disagreement between the Than and an ally of the Free Trade Alliance.

Harper makes a reference to "The Green Hills of Earth," which is a short story in the "Future History" of Robert A. Heinlein, as well as a collection of such short stories, and a song that plays a key part in that story and is mentioned often in many others of the Future History.

This is the second time Beka kisses Dylan; in both cases, she does it to make another person jealous.

Beka meets Layden at the Valley Forge Gardens. The location used for this scene, and other scenes in the first season, is the Bloedel Floral Conservatory in Vancouver.

Regarding episode title...... The first lines of a poem of the same name by R. B. Sheridan: "Had I a heart for falsehood framed, I ne'er could injure you; For though your tongue no promise claimed, Your charms would make me true."

Andromeda has been invited to help negotiations between the Than and the owner of Peirpont Drift to avert a war. The argument is over a crystal that contains the heart of an early Than leader which was stolen and now resides in the private museum on Peirpoint. Negotiations aren't going well but there is a back-up plan; Harper has created a replica of the Heart which he, Beka and Trance plan to switch for the original. This would never be easy but is made even more difficult when they are recognised by the local head of security.

This stand-alone episode is a lot of fun; the heist itself might not take up too much of the episode but it is well staged and there are plenty of other things going on too. There are some enjoyably scenes between Lisa Ryder, as Beka, and Anthony Lemke, the cop who may not be quite what he seems. There is also enjoyable intrigue as Tyr has behind the scenes meetings for reasons that aren't immediately clear. As the story approaches its conclusion there are some good twists; not all of them are expected. I liked to design of Peirpont Drift with its blend of grotty, industrial, an area that looks like the tropical house of a botanical garden and the hi-tech museum. Overall a rather fun episode.
