Artie and Steve retrieve a Van Gogh painting, an artifact, from a New York City art gallery. Fargo, from Eureka, is trapped in a virtual role playing game he created. When the rest of the Warehouse crew joins the simulation to rescue him, they find it eerily similar to their real lives.

Leena, as Leena of the Eagle People, makes a reference to the Curse of the Pharaohs, specifically that of Tutankhamen. When she is freed from the Studio 54 Disco ball, Leena thanks Pete and Claudia from saving her from "Carter's Curse". Howard Carter is the man who discovered Tutankhamen's Tomb, a pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty. A series of mysterious deaths that surrounded Carter after he opened the tomb has been sensationalized over the years to be attributed to a mummy's curse.

In the game there is Carter's curse and the dagger of Josephine, both are characters from Eureka (Josephine/Jo Lupo and sheriff Jack Carter).

The modified headset Claudia gives Gibson mirrors the famous hairstyle of Princess Leia from Star Wars.
