Short summary

Barry and Team Flash are thrilled to reunite with Earth-2 Wells and Jesse. Wells confides to Barry and Caitlin that Jesse has all the powers of a speedster and has been saving people on his Earth. He is concerned about her safety and wants them to talk her out of using her powers. Meanwhile, Magenta, a new meta who can control metal, terrorizes the city.

This episode introduces Frankie Kane, another love interest of Wally West in the Flash comic books.

The name "Magenta" is a wink to Marvel Universe character Magneto, a mutant who can remotely control every metallic object. In this Flash episode, Magenta is seen moving only metallic objects.

Frankie Kane / Magenta is played by Joey King who also played another DC character in the movie The Dark Knight Rises, a young Talia Al Ghul.

This week's episode was fun, not much else. A new villain, Earth-2 visitors, more Julian Albert and now there's a Speed Lab.

I noticed something that I hadn't thought of before. In some episodes of The Flash it opens with Barry having a narration and I'm not referring to the "My name is..." intro but narrations like the one in this episode where Barry sits and wait until he can get off work. It made me realize that Arrow never does that. At least not that I can remember but The Flash has done it a noticeable amount of times. It's such a small thing that I find so great about this show.

Wells is slightly different. Is Flashpoint to blame? Maybe. Anyway, he still has the overprotective aspect to him. He spends almost the entire episode nagging on people, typical Earth-2 Wells.

Barry had the focus last episode so understandably he's not so much in the center this episode. He and Iris try to have a date but as typical for a superhero, duty is always calling.

Wally and Jesse were fine, they are not my favourite characters but to be fair they are the newest additions to the team as well. They already hinted towards Wally getting powers so I'm sure he will eventually. However, I don't think three speedsters all the time is a great idea unless every week there is a villain team up but three-four speedsters for a special event would be great (throw in Jay for the fight).

Magenta was an okay "villain" that allowed for an interesting situation with one tanker high up in the air. In fact it created quite the issue for the Flash as he can't knock out Magenta or get rid of the tanker. Pretty clever of the writers I might say.

Julian Albert is clever, he's mean but I can't deny that the actor play him very well.

Small detail, Caitlin was wearing a magenta coloured skirt throughout the episode.

I thought it was funny when Cisco gave out a little "meh" when he heard Magenta already had a villain name. He has only gotten to name half of Dr. Alchemy.

All in all fun episode, enjoyed the team up and thought the tanker above was a clever idea. Mirror Master next week, finally!

The Flash Season 3 continues its streak of good episode with an episode which was a filler episode, but it still worked out! Harrison Wells and Jesse have returned to Earth 1 to run some tests on Jesse who was affected by the dark matter experiment that happened in the episode Rupture. Jesse is a speedster and wants to use her powers, but Harrison thinks she should slow down. The villain of the week is Magenta, a metahuman possessed by Dr. Alchemy who can control metal. She lives in a foster family where her dad abuses her, and she takes her powers out on him. Magenta was a great villain that felt different from the other metas of the week due to the sympathy that can be felt for her. Also, the special effects and action scenes continue to be great. My main issue with this episode is Wally. I found it dumb that he gets annoyed easily because of Jesse being a speedster, and he wants to be one too (really Wally!). Despite this, this episode had a great meta of the week and a new speedster which makes it a good one. Grade: 8.4/10

With this season off to a flyer in my books, there was part of me that has been waiting for that episode that doesn't quite hit. Well after this episode, it is safe to say I'm still waiting for that miss hit. I loved this episode. We got to see more into Felton's character Julian, we got a first formal introduction to Jesse Quick, suit and all, and we got to see the start of the build up towards Wally as Kid Flash.

I'm going to start with the villain of the week, Magenta. What I think the CW shows do well is adopted that villain of the week format for the first half of the season before jumping into the main plot line for the second half. This episode was no different. Magenta is another villain created by Alchemy.

I thought this was a really good villain to have this episode because it tied so well into the other story arcs that were played out. We got a villain which was difficult enough to force Jesse Quick into action without feeling like they were shoe horning her into the story.

We also got to see what I think are hints towards how Wally will get his speed. He mentioned in episode that he dreams about being a speedster, which lines up with Magenta saying that she dreamt about her powers in Flashpoint. At this point, it seems like Alchemy will be a big part in Wally becoming a speedster and perhaps we might be in a situation where Wally turns against Barry.

I really loved the scenes with Tom Felton this episode. The way he is delivering this role has a Malfoy vibe to it without going full Malfoy. Just the tone he speaks and the way he composes himself on camera really gives off the vibe that he is a character we need to know more about and he is someone we can't trust.

Anytime we get to see Tom Cavanagh is always fantastic. It is actors like him and Jesse Martin that gives this show the heart it needs. I really liked the story arc they have him this episode and we get to see a parent have to go through watching their child become a speedster. We didn't really get that with Barry. When Joe found out about Barry's speed in the pilot episode, he was already committed to being The Flash.

Overall yet another outstanding episode. For me this season is 3 from 3 and I can't wait to see what's in for us in the rest of the season. Next week we get our first look at Mirror Master and the return of one of my favourite rogues, Captain Cold, so there is every chance that next week is going to be another great episode.

This is more like it. The ep had almost the right balance of drama/comedy. Although I'm just happy the ep was fun to watch again.

Opening Julian/Barry, awkward Barris dates and bad dad attacked by lamppost = fun. Joe retains his crown for Best Dad Ever, LOVE his explanation for why he never had to use dad cop on Barry.

I didn't realize Harry wasn't in the first 2 eps until now. Huh. His opening scene was a little overboard/out of character, maybe the trip through the worm hole gave him a temporary high? His convo with Barry in the new speed lab felt shoehorned, as if they're trying establish a bond between the two. Why? (And maybe it's me, but are the two actors in some kind of bizarre competition to see who can reach skin and bones weight?)

Wally/Jesse came off more mature than Barry/Iris. I guess we know what Wally's new secret hobby will be. Poor Caitlin, you can practically see her silent cry for help/understanding. Baby Meta didn't die or get locked up! The first time I saw Trajectory's outfit, I thought it looked incredibly well-made for a one-off. Pep talks to anyone but Barry is fine with me. Although that last (long) one from Harry to Jesse just about tipped it back to too many again.

I like how the show is incorporating little VFX here and there, making it a fun surprise each time it happens/just like in the comics. Also, did they replace the cosmic treadmill for a cosmic hamster wheel?!

Yes, we get it, it's all Barry's fault. It's been all Barry's fault since S1. Reminding us to hate the titular character is only going to continue to alienate viewers. Also, SHOW us Singh next time.

Still. This is a VAST improvement over the last 2 eps, more fun/lighter hearted/believable Barris interaction/no emoCisco.

Nothing too extraordinary or shocking has happened thus far in this season of Flash, but I'm finding it exceptionally good. No, Flashpoint didn't drastically impact the universe the way we thought, but I like the way they have approached Barry's unfortunate choices in that timeline. As of right now, this is clearly the best show CW has to offer.

This week saw the first appearance of Magenta, another villain whose powers derive from Alchemy. I know people have issue with Alchemy's look, but I like everything he's doing so far. I also don't need an explanation about his motives or bigger plans as of yet, I'm just enjoying what he's doing. Magenta herself was a good enough one-off villain for this week, and Joey King provided an entirely different vibe than what the show has brought in the past.

King has been acting for nearly a decade now and has shown a ton of growth from her days on Suite Life or even in Ramona and Beezus, which is a guilty pleasure. So it was nice to see her take on a comic-book character, putting aside her very brief role as Young Talia in The Dark Knight Rises. I liked that her actions as Magenta were completely separate from what she believed was right as Frankie. Her powers obviously felt like a Magneto rip-off, but they served their purpose in the story and at least gave the show a different villain for Flash to defeat.

Of course, Flash wasn't alone this time as he had some useful help from Jesse Quick as the newly touted speedster in the show. I was so glad to hear that Jesse and Harry were going to be returning, even if it isn't for long. The season didn't necessarily need them, but the more the merrier when it comes to the people at S.T.A.R Labs. The conflict between Jesse and Harry was handled well too, although it did feel like a season 2 rehash. But I'm just glad it seems it was over and done in one episode.

Another speedster conflict dealt with Wally's desire to have superpowers, particularly speed, due to his jealousy of Jesse. This felt completely forced and merely done because they needed to give Wally something to do. If I'm being honest, I've never really cared about the Wally character, and now having Jesse suit up as a speedster, I don't ever care to see Wally suit up as 'Kid Flash' (seriously, worst name ever). Having him stand in front of an oncoming car to "jumpstart" his speedster process was one of the most ridiculous things this show has ever done. Everything to do with Wally tonight was pretty dull TV. But please Barry, just tell Wally he was a speedster in the other timeline.

A few other noteworthy pleasantries included: Harry excessively using the word "not" at the end of his sarcastic comments. That was pure gold. Tom Felton once again bringing a fresh vibe to the show, it's been unlike anything the show has had in the past and I love it. And lastly, I loved Harry calling Barry out for his Flashpoint mistakes. It's just about dang time Tom Cavanagh returns, and I hope he sticks around for quite some time.

    +Jesse's ecstatic speedster

    +Harry is back

+Magenta was a nice change of pace

    +Felton

    -Wally material

I gave it a 5/10 just because Tom Cavanagh is back.. And so is Jesse Quick... But I'm still waiting to understand what the theme of the season is gonna be... It can't just be going up against Dr. Alchemy... There should be another evil speedster... I thought it would be "Rival"...but he turned out to be a disappointment, glad they got rid of him... The new set-up is just not good enough... Having said that I did like the "Speed Lab"... But I'm hoping they bring in a new evil speedster this season.. Maybe bring the reverse flash back, he was good... I'm hearing stuff like Wally becoming a speedster and turning against the "Team Flash"... Well, if that's the case.. I doubt that the Kid Flash would be as good a villain as the Reverse Flash or Zoom... I'm also hoping now that Wells from Earth-2 is back, there would be some laughs too.. Loved his banter with Cisco in the entire Season 2.. Hoping for an amazing episode next week, because this was lame...
