Short summary
Karel's feet hurt: he needs a new pair of shoes. He buys new ones, but instead of buying a pair that are comfortable, he buys a pair that look very good but are too small for him. Too stubborn to admit they're the wrong size, he tells Luciën the shoes fit wonderfully. Meanwhile, Frits happily exploits a stranded man with collapse.
