Short summary
As Shaun pushes back against Dr. Melendez in order to treat a gravely ill hospital janitor and deal with the return of Lea, Dr. Lim risks a lawsuit and her career to help a teenage girl repair the damage caused by an archaic custom. Meanwhile, Dr. Glassman exercises demanding oversight with Dr. Blaize in choosing a doctor for his brain surgery.
The main plot of the episode, written by David Shore, revolves around a patient with acid reflux caused by pancreatic cancer. On David Shore's previous show, House, there was a patient diagnosed with acid reflux that causes him to squeak. Later, Dr. House discovered that pancreatic cancer is causing the acid reflux.
Christina Chang (Dr. Lim) previously guest-starred on Numb3rs, on which Alimi Ballard (Mara's father) starred as FBI Agent David Sinclair, also as a doctor (specifically a pediatric surgeon). They did not share any scenes.
