The digital world is confusing and empty. Everyone's there in the rooms that are supposed to let us have a good time, on the servers of Google, Facebook and Amazon. What happens when we try to leave the mainstream internet? Online we are just data. We exist as digital reflections of ourselves. They look like us, but they are different. And long ago we lost control over them. WE ARE DATA tells the story of a young man who tries to escape, but is outrun by his digital self. He could be anyone of us. Or didn't you get scared at some disclosure during the last years? Maybe we should take it into our own hands to create our digital world. In the film three who are already doing their best at it tell us their view. It's a journey on a search for the internet, how it was supposed to be. The end of this journey is open. Or do we already know the outcome, because it's all about us?
