Short summary

The Secretary for the Department of UFO Information presents a film about impending dangers from outer space. In it, Micky is abducted by aliens from the planet Zlotnick and replaced by a robot duplicate. Despite the robot's feet being on backwards, at first Davy and Peter do not suspect a thing.

The American flags used in the episode were obsolete by the time the episode was filmed. The small ones on Pat Paulsen's desk have 48 stars (World War II era), while the large flag has only 35 stars (Civil War era).

Michael Nesmith was unavailable during the bulk of the shoot, but appears on camera for the first minute and one brief subsequent shot. He introduces guest narrator Pat Paulsen, whose scenes appear to have been added at a later stage to pad the story out to regular length.

The weapons that the aliens use are Astro-Ray guns from Ohio Art painted white and gray instead of the customary red and white colors.

Makes reference and partially parodies Plan 9 From Outer space

Broadcast no. 49 (Jan 15 1968), "Monkees Watch Their Feet" was actually 40th in production, filmed May 24-26 1967, while Michael Nesmith was recovering from his May 23 tonsillectomy. Nes does appear to introduce the marvelously deadpan Pat Paulsen, a sensation in '68 running for President on the STAG (Straight Talking American Government) ticket, his slogan, "if elected, I will win!" (he died in 1997). Paulsen's Secretary for the Department of UFO Information shows us a film depicting the alien abduction of Micky Dolenz, replaced by a lookalike robot that rusts easily and has feet pointing backwards. Micky has a field day, and the invaders are played by Stuart Margolin (THE ROCKFORD FILES) and sexy Nita Talbot, but overall the stop-start chaotic presentation is just a mess. The lone track featured is "Star Collector," making its third go-round. Next in production- "A Nice Place to Visit," which became the debut telecast of the second season.
