A musketeer in the service of Louis XIII, becomes enamored of the Duke of Beaulin's daughter, who is not indifferent to him, and the lovers, owing to the difference in their social positions, are compelled to meet clandestinely. At a tryst beside an old pit they hear voices, and the musketeer descends, follows a subterranean passage and overhears three courtiers plotting against the king. He vanquishes the trio in a hard-fought battle and secures their incriminating documents. The king rewards him with the title of Duke, which enables him to wed the girl of his choice.

Released in the US as a split reel along with the comedy Il duello di Robinet (1910).

A title that arouses one's interest, and the story, as it develops, offers more than the usual interest which attaches to melodramatic stories. A poor soldier, in love with a duke's daughter, discovers plotters against the king, vanquishes them in a lively battle, secures the papers, is rewarded with a dukedom and marries the girl of his choice. Who can work out any better story than that? A fight is always interesting, and when one man singlehanded kills everybody in sight, there is a feeling of exultation and one feels like shaking hands with the invincible hero. But he got the girl, to him the main feature of his career. But even though all this is true, the film doesn't rise above "the usual thing" in any place. - The Moving Picture World, October 22, 1910
