Master of Illusion: John Seale hit the headlines earlier this year when he picked up the best cinematography Oscar for The English Patient. But he already had an impressive string of international box office hits to his name: Witness, Rainman, Dead Poets Society, Gorillas in the Mist etc etc. It's a long way from his first job in the ABC stationery department in a basement at Gore Hill in Sydney. Seale had to badger his way into the cinecamera department .. eventually working his way up to camera assistant. Now he calls the shots. And he chooses his own jobs.
