Short summary

The A-Bomb, the H-Bomb, Cold War, Kennedy, Khrushchev, Yeltsin, Reagan...Who said that the world was a safe place?
Hiroshima. August 6, 1945: the atomic bomb explodes. More of 70,000 dead and much more wounded. In that day, mankind discovers the power of nuclear weapons, and it discovers the fear too. When a few years later the H-Bomb explodes in the Pacific ocean the fear and panic grow up of alarming way and during 50 years, during all the Cold War, sometimes the mankind almost disappears in a nuclear apocalypse. In this travel across the time some military and war experts explain as the human race was very near of the total extinction by a nuclear holocaust. A danger what still exists today...

In the sequence about the Cuban missile crisis, the narrator says "For the first time ever, the president invoked pentagon procedures for nuclear war" while a still shot of Kennedy signing something is superimposed with footage of war preparations. Among this footage is a shot of two unusual jet fighters taking off simultaneously. These unswept low-wing planes with two engines above their wings are neither American nor Russian but in fact Canadian Avro Canada CF-100 Canucks.

(The B-52s) "were in the air upwards of 20, 24 hours non-stop, which is a very stressful operation (...) People begin to hallucinate after 24 to 48 hours without sleep." While true, the SAC knew that, which is why the B-52 often took additional crew and had space for them to move and rest, although it didn't have bunk beds like the B-36 or the Catalina flying boat.
