A painter, draughtsman, sculptor, and print-maker, Nesbitt is and was considered a photo realist artist, best known for his wild, large-scale images of flowers. He also served as the official artist for the space flights of Apollo 9 and Apollo 13. Both a celebrated artist in America and Europe, Nesbitt's work is said be "dramatic, "implicitly sexual", and a "little ominous".
