High Stakes is a short film which follows Alyssa (Alina Bondar), an orphaned twenty-two year old and successful poker player, through 48 hours of her life, during which she faces the biggest poker game of her career. After her boyfriend, James (Antonio Olivarius), is forced to pay back a debt for money he was cheated out of, Alyssa turns to her sponsor and "boss", Dom (Ron Fountain), a retired bookie and loan shark, to find her a big game to pay off James' debt and get out of their corrupt neighborhood. Dom sends her to Las Vegas for a game worth more than the chips on the table. Despite her great skill for the game, Alyssa comes face to face with the very thing she does not believe in: luck.
