Short summary
Premiered at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station on March 24, 1944, and the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan, with star Robert Lowery, Paramount contractees Susan Hayward, Phyllis Brooks, Jean Heather, Albert Dekker and director 'William A. Berke'(as William Berke) in attendance. They also appeared on that evenings broadcast of the "Meet Your Navy" radio show and the following day they all appeared on "The National Barn Dance" radio show broadcast from WLS in Chicago.
The failure of the original copyright holder to renew the film's copyright resulted in it falling into public domain, meaning that virtually anyone could duplicate and sell a VHS/DVD copy of the film. Therefore, many of the versions of this film available on the market are either severely (and usually badly) edited and/or of extremely poor quality, having been duped from second- or third-generation (or more) copies of the film.
Hairy-chested Robert Lowery was forced to submit to a body waxing in order to appear bare-chested in the boxing sequences.
