Short summary

A 30-foot lizard on the loose terrorizes a town full of rowdy, inept teenagers in The Giant Gila Monster (1959). Joel shows off his sitcom radio while the Mads demonstrate their renaissance festival-themed punching bags in the invention exchange. Later, the Bots ruin Joel's soda shop sketch.

Joel references 'Jurassic Park,' but in 1992 when this episode was taped for its June 13 release, he was speaking of the book. The film would not be out until a year later, June 11, 1993.

While Tom Servo and Crow are taped together at the beginning of the episode, Joel makes a comment about how they can be "the Odd Couple: 1999." The Odd Couple II, the sequel to the original movie, came out in 1998, just shy of making Joel's joke a true prediction.

This is one of the best episodes of the Joel era. It's so worth it just to see Gypsy with all that lipstick. I don't think she has a lower body. I think that was just a bunch of stuff taped to her already long neck. This was just full of laughs. I think it's mostly because this was a movie that tried to have comedic moments in it. This is why the cast of Rifftrax won't do comedies. It was so interesting to hear them comment on why some parts weren't funny. The best bits were easily with that annoying drunk guy. This had some of the best lines done in response.

"I'll give you fifty dollars" "For acting lessons"

"How do you get rid of a bunch of kids going around in different directions?" "Easy, use tear gas!"

For some reason, I laughed the hardest at the "By the way, the stove is on". Maybe I just want to see these characters get hurt. I really could tell the last drawing at the end was to good for a random kid to draw. Good work, Frank! ****
