A wonderful documentary about the legendary African musician, singer Bi Kidude. If you don't know her yet, you're in for a treat. Documentarian Andy Jones has access most filmmakers dream of, as he takes us on a musical journey through Zanzibar to learn of her background, the traditions she came from, and the impact she made on the contemporary scene in East Africa. A rebel from the get go, she has some brilliant lines: "It doesn't matter if your hair is gray, as long as your machine is still working." The awards the film received on the festival circuit are a testament to Bi Kidude's power, she is as radical today as she was during her time.
