Short summary

Sam and Dean investigate a case where people are suffering violent deaths after hearing a mysterious sound.

After Dean confides in Lucifer, who he at that point believes to be Castiel, Lucifer touches his shoulder as Cas often does when attempting to comfort Dean. Dean looks freaked out and later talks to Sam about how something seems off about him. If you look at all the scenes in which Cas touches Dean's shoulder, he always touches his left one. Lucifer put his hand on his right one, subconsciously encouraging the idea in Dean's head that something is not right about his friend.

Shoshanna Stern (who plays Eileen Leahy) is deaf. Her first language was American Sign Language but she comfortably reads lips.

The rock aliases "Osbourne" and "Butler" used in this episode are a nod to Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath

This episode shares its name with a Van Morrison song

The photo of teenage Sam and Dean in Sam's memory box was created using actual childhood photos of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles.

The sign that Sam uses as he tries to say "thank you", is actually the sign for "f*ck", or, in some deaf communities, "f*ck you".

Sam is revealed to know a little sign language, which he learned while in college. In real life both Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins have reportedly taught their children sign language.

This episode marks the first time the Winchesters have salt-and-burned a body since Supernatural: Bad Boys (2013).

The song "Wonderful! Wonderful!" By Johnny Mathis which is playing when the impala pulls up to the rest home is the same song used 20 years before on "X-Files" Season 4 Episode 2 titled "Home".

Jonathan Potts, who plays Arthur, also played Mr. Fremont (Lilith / Zoey's father) in S03E16 "No Rest for the Wicked".

Lucifer tells the angel at the park that he is here to save the world, dubbing it 'Lucifer ex machina'. This is a variation of 'Deus ex machina', a Latin saying meaning 'God from the machine', an expression of a divine intervention saving an otherwise hopeless situation.

When Sam and Dean are questioning Mildred Baker about the Banshee, she says "This isn't the first time I've dealt with something like this. " This is a nod to the fact that the actress that plays Mrs. Baker is Dee Wallace. She played Elliott's mother in E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.

When Mildred says to Dean, "I'm not gonna bite. It never really was my thing." it may be an allusion to the fact that Dee Wallace starred in Ulvonta (1981) in which she was bitten by a werewolf but was killed the moment after she transformed into a werewolf herself for the first time, never having a chance to do the same to anyone else.

The short sword used by the deaf hunter Eileen to kill the Banshee is actually an Amazonian sword used by the Amazons. The Amazons are from the season 7 episode "The Slice Girls" which sadly featured Dean witnessing Sam shoot his daughter Emma.

Misha Collins only plays Lucifer in this episode. Misha Collins has now been in more episodes than his main character Castiel. This is the first time in the show's history that this has happened.

When Dee Wallace says "I'm not gonna bite. Never really was my thing" it's a nod to her roles in Cujo (a woman & child trapped in a car by a rabid St. Bernard), & The Howling (Where she is terrorized by werewolves).
