Short summary

After a series of brutal murders, Dean, Sam and Bobby travel to investigate and they meet Rufus. They team-up and find that Eve, a.k.a. The Mother of All, is the responsible for the killings. When they find a clue of the location where she might be, they stumble upon Samuel and Gwen who are also chasing Eve. Soon they learn that Eve has created an evil worm that penetrates through the ear and force the victim to kill. Now they do not know who might have been possessed by the creature.

The title refers to an Agatha Christie novel with the same name. The novel was first published in the US under the titles "Ten Little Indians". Its original title, as it was published in the UK, utilized a word now considered highly offensive.

Mitch Pileggi, aka Samuel Campbell, and Steven Williams, aka Rufus Turner, both starred in The X-Files(1993).

Final appearance of Mitch Pileggi as Samuel Campbell.

Dean describes the thing that crawled out of his ear as "a Khan worm on steroids." He is referring to the creature that controls human behavior from the sci-fi classic Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982).

The character of Samuel played by Mitch Pileggi is thrown into an open electrical junction box and is violently electrocuted to death. Pileggi played Horace Pinker in Wes Craven's Shocker. A story about a murderous criminal who gains supernatural powers after he is put to death in the electric chair.

Body count: 5 (Rick's Wife, Gwen Campbell, Samuel Campbell, Rufus Turner, and Khan Worm)

After burying Rufus, Bobby takes out a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, which is a very expensive type of Scotch, and pours some of it on his grave to honor his fallen friend then he takes a swig. Johnnie Walker Blue Label is Rufus' favorite liquor, in fact he tells Dean in Supernatural: Time Is on My Side (2008) that not only is it his favorite drink but it is the only liquor he will drink.

The scene where Sam, Dean, Bobby, and Rufus were shocking each other to see who had the parasite is very similar to the scene in The Thing (1982), where the scientist where testing there blood with regular human blood too see who was the thing.

This episode is where the writers clear out most of the old characters from last season to make room for a new storyline with new characters for the current season! "And Then There Were None" title is a very good description for the show's intent. There is not to many old characters left after this episode. The writers use the slug in the ear/parasite storyline which is entertaining. The viewer is left with the question what will happen this season? What new events, characters, and things will occur this year? I like the direction the series is taking now! The show needs some fresh material in order to keep the audience's interest in the show. I give the episode a seven out of ten.

I understand why Samuel had to die, I can say I'm even glad for that, though a little surprised to see Sam killing him. I don't even have a problem with Gwen's death (shocking and sad, but I can live with that), But why did Rufus have to die? I liked him, He was Bobby's friend and mentor, Sure they had their share of bad history but they still remained loyal friends and to see Bobby killing him was very unsettling. Ironic however that the episode ended with three hunters killing three hunters. (Possessed Dean killed Gwen, Sam killed possessed Samuel and possessed Bobby killed Rufus)

The episode was another solid episode of the season and I'm still confused how to rate it, I still can't decide between giving it a 9 or an 8 but I'll go with 8 for now because it didn't add much to the story of The Mother of All than we already know and Eve herself failed to pass for me as the big bad.

The brotherly bond once again was on top, I loved their synchronized actions moving together and agreeing on what to do without having to say a word. They also continued to support and watch each others back. I loved it when Sam threatened Samuel of killing him if he dared to harm Dean and I loved Dean's comforting words to his brother when the latter was feeling guilty over offing his grandpa.

"Just because you're blood doesn't make you family. You've gotta earn that."

Samuel was Sam and Dean's blood but he wasn't their family, he didn't think twice before selling them out to Crowley and didn't feel guilty either, He shuns Bobby saying "You must be the guy pretending to be their father." which means he doesn't view the concept of family as the boys see it. Sam and Dean are blood and family they love and forgive each other and the same applies to Bobby, who is their father though not blood. Rufus too earned the right to be Bobby's family because they got each other's back and obviously cared for each other. And I find Dean's speech on the last scene very refreshing and wise. " I mean at the end of the day you two are family. Life's short, and ours is shorter than most. We going to spend it wringing our hands? Something's going to get us, eventually, and when my guts get ripped out just so you two know, we're good. Blanket apology for all the crap anyone's done all the way around."

"And Then There Were None" is an episode that combines the story lines of "Fallen" and "The Thing", with a creature that possesses the persons. This is the end of the journey of Rufus, Samuel and Gwen in "Supernatural" and let's see what else the sexy Eve will make in the next episodes. My vote is eight.

Title (Brazil): "E Então não Havia mais Ninguém" ("And Then There Were Nobody Else")

(Very) Minor Spoilers Below: This episode continues the story started in Like A Virgin, where the Mother of All (now known as Eve) is free from purgatory and roaming the Earth. We find out more about her and her plot. Meanwhile, Sam, Dean, and Bobby are investigating a man who says he blacked out while he bludgeoned his family to death with a sledgehammer. While there, they run into Rufus, Samuel, and Gwen who are investigating as well. Obviously, Dean, Sam, and Bobby don't like Samuel because of his actions in Caged Heat, leading to some of the mistrust generated in this episode. During the investigation, the episode turns into a combination of Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004) and John Carpenter's The Thing (1982). If you've seen those, it's the creature from ST2 and the blood test from JCTT. If not, I'm not going to ruin the surprise. I did enjoy the episode and I'm glad they ended Samuel's storyline as well as finally continuing Eve's storyline. Maybe now they can have more episodes where they have to kill creatures while tracking down Eve and trying to figure out how to kill her (or maybe just do a repeat of season 5 and send her back to purgatory).
