Short summary

The LDV (future Home Guard) is still wanting for military supplies. So Mainwaring can't resists illegally 'requisitioning' anything of use in the Peabody Museum of Historical Army Weapons when it closes for the war. Alas its curator, Lance Corporal Jones' loony, mean 88 year-old father, puts up a crafty, tenacious defence. The loot proves worse then disappointing.

"You ought to be with ITMA", says George Jones, referring to BBC Radio's hugely popular comedy series "It's That Man Again", which ran between 1939 and 1949.

The exterior of the museum was actually Oxburgh Hall, a National Trust property in Norfolk.

When Mainwaring recounts that he believed he heard one of his men tell him to "Get stuffed!", Wilson suggests that the man in question might have been Private Frazer, though Mainwaring is doubtful. Evidence from future episodes suggests that the most likely culprit is Private Walker; he demonstrated similar behaviour in Dad's Army: The Lion Has Phones (1969).

Still without any uniforms or weapons apart from a solitary rifle borrowed from Private Godfrey, the men are carrying out training which involves Private Pike getting soaked and his mum not being happy about it.

When the head of the Peabody Museum of Historical Army Weapons rings the bank to suspend his account for the duration of the war, Captain Mainwaring has the idea of requisitioning the weapons contained in the museum.

The curator turns out to be Corporal Jones 88 year old father who puts up a stern resistance as the Home Guard try to break in. He even gets into an altercation with Jones, his own son.

Private Frazer uses a cunning trick to smoke him out, a bottle of whiskey.

A nice amusing episode, especially as Jones sr is rather crafty and having fun with it.
