After being attacked by crows who peck at his eyes Homer briefly becomes addicted to medical marijuana but manages to kick the habit before Mr. Burns asks for his help in preparing a speech for an important meeting. When Mr. Burns appears to have drowned in his bath Homer works the 'corpse' like a marionette to convince the gathering that Burns is fit and well. The jerking movements revive Burns and disaster is avoided.

On American TV, this episode was originally rated TV-PG for violence (V). The rating was later changed to TV-14 due to the heavy references to marijuana smoking, along with the violence (Homer getting pecked by crows, a teenage Homer getting bitten in the crotch by a drug dog, Homer bleeding "rainbows" as he shaves himself under the influence, and Mr. Burns bleeding while being used as a marionette).

Homer mentions that, since he has a prescription, he could "walk right up to the President and blow it (Marijuana smoke) in his stupid monkey face..." George W Bush was the President at the time.

The title for this episode comes from the movie Weekend at Bernie's (1989), which is also about two guys trying to make people believe their dead employer is still alive.

One of the jokes Mr. Burns uses on Homer is "Working hard or hardly working". This same joke was used by Homer in the season 23 episode Them Robot.

In the DVD commentary Al Jean incorrectly says this episode aired before Blame it on Lisa, however the reverse is true.
