Short summary

The Simpsons give a lift to a man called Larry who is hitching to Springfield after discovering that he is Burns's long-lost son. Burns is initially happy to see him but tires of Larry's uncouth slobbishness and Larry is befriended by Homer. He decides that Larry might win back his father's love by means of a fake kidnapping. The plan is exposed but Burns forgives Larry, who then goes home to his wife and children.

According to this episode, Burns came from New Haven, Connecticut.

Per the title, the quote "Burn, baby, burn!" is attributed to William Epton Jr. who was a member of the Vice Chairman of the Progressive Labor Party and a devoted Maoist African-American communist activist who advocated violence to bring about social change. The anti-Vietnam movement and student radicals adopted the slogan as riots occurred in American cities and violence erupted on college campuses in the turbulent Sixties.

The Cider Mill is named after Die Simpsons (1989) writer John Swartzwelder.

The play being done in the Play Room is Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman."

Flanders has Season Pass No. 00001 for the cider mill.

The phone number the police trace from the Simpson house began with 555, before Wiggum dismissed it as phony. In reality, phone numbers in TV shows and movies begin with 555 as a way to distinguish these fictitious phone numbers from real-life numbers.

In attendance at the street party at the end are the tour guide and a tourist couple from the cider mill and the old military gentlemen Larry met earlier
