The first episode features many of the same animation models seen in Mata Nui Abenteuer Spiel (2001). From the second episode, most of the mask designs drastically change to a more accurate representation of the actual LEGO toys. This is most apparent on Hafu's mask, which changes its look completely.

The first episode required viewers to click on an arrow button to make the dialogue progress. This feature was abandoned beginning from the second episode.

The series was accompanied by several writings which read like news reports and summarized the story of each episode. This was called the Wall of History.

This web-series marks the first appearance of Hahli, a character who would later be featured in her own game, Mata Nui Online Game II: The Final Chronicle (2003), and in the movie Bionicle - Die Maske des Lichts: Der Film (2003).

One of the most famous scenes among fans is when Hewkii and Macku are about to kiss but are interrupted by Jaller. The main Bionicle story writer, Greg Farshtey declared this to be non-canonical and just a gag thrown in by the creators.

Kotu, a Ga-Matoran character originally invented for the 2001 Bionicle story, makes her first confirmed appearance in these animations. She was name-dropped but did not appear in Mata Nui Abenteuer Spiel (2001), though some believe the Matoran tending to the defeated Tarakava beast was meant to be her. Kotu was afterwards phased out of the story and her place was taken over by the newcomer Hahli, making Kotu one of the most obscure and overlooked early Bionicle characters.
