Short summary

When a subway train is thrown off the track by 60,000 gallons of flood water, a partially skeletonized body emerges out of the overflow. While Dr. Sweets, a passenger on the derailed train, copes with post traumatic stress, the rest of the team and intern Daisy Wick get to work on identifying the victim as Martin Aragon, a professional ghost writer caught up in a deadly love triangle. Meanwhile, Brennan releases her second book to great success, but has to accommodate a nosy reporter, and Sweets' near-death experience leads him to make a drastic decision.

The subway set used was the same one used in Universal Studios, Hollywood. It was used for different events, but was originally created for the Earthquake tour. The tram would stop in front of the set, the subway would start to come out of the tunnel, and then after the earthquake, the water would rush down the stairs and hit the subway and push it into a pillar and it would break apart. The whole area can be reset within minutes and the water is drained and reused as well. It was set up with pneumatic pumps.

Bones, Booth and Inagawa feel the restaurant shake and Bones mentions that in 1811 and 1812 strong tremors shook D.C. From Dec. 1811 through Feb. 1812 a series of powerful quakes occurred around New Madrid, MO just west of the Mississippi River. The quakes cracked windows as far away as D.C. and N.Y., and made the Mississippi and Tennessee Rivers run backwards for a while.

The page number in Brennan's book of Hodgin's "thing that he does" is page 187, which is the same number used for the murder code, the main theme of the show.

Clea DuVall (Transit Cop Grant) was on an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She played a teenager who became invisible because people ignored her. She started hurting those people. David Boreanaz played Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Hodges, and all, discussing 'Quasar' safety slugs. In the real world Glaser Blue Safety Slugs disintegrate on impact and reputedly won't even penetrate a sheet of drywall, while the Silver Safety Slugs have slightly better penetration. The whole point of safety rounds is that they do not go through a body and hit something behind the target.

The skeleton of a murder victim is discovered in a subway tunnel, which turns out to be the least important part of this episode. Bones is being shadowed by a journalist from Japan, who is less interested in forensics than the romantic relationships among the characters in Brennan's latest novel. There's a recurring gag about what occurs on page 187 of her book, which turns out to have been inspired by the perpetually horny Angela. Meanwhile, a near-death experience on the subway has Sweets shaken to his core. The episode is quite humorous, although the subplot with Sweets is deadly serious. And the young actor who plays Sweets gets to shine here in a way he is rarely allowed.

The end line about soulmates originated with Plato is incorrect - it is from Plato's "Symposium," yes, but it was in Symposium that Aristophanes said humans used to have four arms, four legs, two heads etc and Zeus, as punishment, chopped them in two forcing these individuals to spend the remainder of their lives searching for their other half. Socrates (Plato) disagreed with this interpretation of love.

    Great show otherwise, as always!
