Short summary

Tommy, who is unable to celebrate Christmas because his mom says Santa isn't real, leaves his kittens out for Santa to take back to the North Pole, but after a major allergic reaction Santa can't fly the sleigh or deliver presents anymore, so the kittens have to deliver the rest of the presents to all the boys and girls before sunrise.

I think this movie was amazing. THE CGI, the over-the-top acting, the bad cutaways, the entire premise itself...If you're the type to sit around and laugh at horrible low-budget films, I definitely recommend watching it. Perhaps with a couple of drinks. I can imagine if I'd watched this as a child I would have actually, sincerely enjoyed it in the way it was intended, so I'd definitely recommend watching this with the kids. They'll enjoy the silly talking animals, and you can enjoy how bad it is. It's so bad, it's somehow actually good. I feel like it's all very tongue-in-cheek, they must have known what they were doing. Many of the lines had me in tears, not because they were actually funny -- but because of the way they were delivered. I hope these guys make more films, I would happily sit and watch another if it was in the same vain as this one. I hope those kittens found good homes in real life.

A copycat movie with the same old Christmas theme. Starring 3 little kittens and a kid obsessed with a Christmas tree. Santa Claus is allergic to cats what an absurd plot. Lost interest 5 minutes into the movie, however writing this review to save others from boredom and ruining their Christmas spirit. There is no single sentence which makes you smile let alone go on a laugh riot. Please give it a miss ..... Horrendous effort even for a low budget movie. Christmas movies need to be fun this does not have any maybe a good movie for the feline fans who like to cuddle up with their pets when they watch it. Claw out your way around this movie ...!!!

I like Christmas movies and live with a cat. So I guess I should be a the target audience for this movie.

But the movie is terrible and unenjoyable at every level.

The production is cheap, acting is bad, and story is uninteresting. The Santa Claus character is not really likable and there is no magic about him. The premise of the movie is that Santa is allergic to cats and has pretty much every common allergy. The story takes place 95% in one house and the block around. There are only 4 characters (excluding the cats) and they are pretty much all the human beings you get to see in the movie. The movie feels really... Small.

Other reviewers say the movie is so bad it's enjoyable for laughs, or they think some of it is made in purpose. It's not. This movie will only make you cringe.

Maybe some young children could enjoy this movie, but then again, why not have them watch something of better quality that is enjoyable for all the family?

In the tradition of Shaun of the Dead or Fido, the humour is campy and the effects deliberately annoying.

The cats are a wondrous mockery of those endless puppies-save-Christmas movies.

The kids universally can't act 'realistically' and the adults are B-move standards, but there are some wonderfully over-the-top freak-outs.

This is absolutely not a movie to be taken seriously, just to be enjoyed for its send-up of pretty much every Christmas movie trope out there.

Unintentional parody? pretty sure EVERY animal welfare organisation will tell you not to give animals as x-mas presents. If the mammy cat in the film had been neutered, there wouldn't be 3 unwanted kittens looking for homes anyway. Some guy randomly adopts 3 kittens even though he hated them 5 seconds previously - at least look into expense and care involved before adopting, and get them and the mammy cat neutered or there will be 200 more kittens looking for homes by the end of the year! Peanut allergy subplot? If allergic: Don't eat strange food without asking if it contains nuts, and carry an epi-pen with you at all times. At least the kittens were cute though :)

This is either the worst Christmas movie ever made, or an amazing parody of terrible Christmas movies. I choose the latter!

What we have here is a concoction of nearly every trope of throwaway Christmas movies, tossed into blender, pureed to perfection, and served in glass with a side of winking wry humor. (I hope).

-Spoilers- The on-screen events range from mildly affecting (the boys and his home-made Christmas tree) to downright creepy (all the adults and everything they do). The cats do talk, but their mouths move in only one scene, which is fine by me. The rules of Santa's magic change from one scene to the next, as the movie tries to cram everything magic (sleighs, reindeer, bags, hats, snow-globes, presents, etc.) until the very last scene. It's truly a bizarre and interesting combination.

What really sets the movie apart from the rest of the throw-away pack are the existential questions it raises from what is off- screen. Where are all the people? How did these two people end up in the same houses they grew-up in 30 years later, yet their parents and siblings are no where to be found? What did they do with them? Does seeing Santa when you are 6 years old turn you into a complete psychopath? Apparently, yes. Also, why everything is so clean? -Spoilers-

The people involved were responsible for the technicals on many low- budget horror movies (including Sharknado 2 and Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark). In fact, you see their allegiances to the craft of film making at the end of the movie, where all the skilled labor and technical jobs get credit before anyone else.

My family watched it, we laughed at it, and now we promise to make this movie family tradition for years to come. Well worth 85 minutes of my life.

I liked this movie. If you are a cat lover, it's one to snuggle up with your kitty and some popcorn and enjoy the show! I thought the CGI affects were well done. I think it will become an annual cult classic type Christmas movie with the cat lovers out there. Yes, you have to let yourself go and just enjoy the movie for what it is, a fun little Christmas movie. Yes, it's a little on the B low budget side, but not anymore than most of the Lifetime movies I've seen. I actually think it's a darling little movie that leaves you with a feel good feeling. And what more could I want from a holiday movie? The kittens are adorable and the kid does a fairly good job as an actor. And the actors that did the voices of the kittens and the mom cat were perfect matches. And the head reindeer were a hoot! I even liked Tinsel, and thought it was a great creative touch with the sleigh. If you love lighthearted Christmas movies with a Santa theme and love cats, you'll like this one! To the "Scrooge" reviewers, I say lighten up, plug in your Christmas lights and lose yourself in the fantasy for 90 minutes! To the one reviewer who thinks it's a parody on holiday films, and will watch it annually, good for you! :) I didn't see it that way, but at least you're in the holiday spirit of things. I'm going to buy it on DVD. I'm addicted to Christmas movies and my fur-baby (my cat) liked it, which is why it got an 8 with me!

The most lame, boring, plot less movie ever seen, complete with absolutely lame actors and annoying cats. This movie is not a cute one where cute, charming cats take over. It is an extremely annoying, plot less, and arduous one to watch. The mother, in particular, was beyond limits in her level of annoyingness and bad acting. It was shocking to see her just sit there while the 'Santa Claus' was choking - one could not even tell if her look was one of concern or one of disgust and hate. The child's acting was much better than that of the adults. Santa Claus also acted well - BUT, the storyline was very poor. Nothing was coherent or synchronized well, the Santa Claus's personality was made into an annoying one, the mother was despicable from the start, the child could not act well for the life of him, and the annoying cats never took anything seriously, despite all the catastrophe. A big waste of over an hour watching this crap.

    *2/10*

This movie was hands down AWFUL for children and for cats.

First, the story was awful. They jumped from one scene to another, without any explanation in the story progression. My question to the writer is where is the parents, the grandparents of Tommy? Why is Marcus alone in his house when he clearly has no job?

Why is the mother a bully to her child? This is not a good movie for children. So far, from my own observation, it teaches children how to establish a cultish lifestyle (i.e Marcus and his obsession with Santa), that Christmas is about presents to subdue and pacify children, such that it will prevent the apocalypse... The only character who is smart here is Tommy.

But... not that smart when he let Marcus, the neighbor keep the three kittens, when he trapped Maisy, the mother of the three kittens in a laundry bin, and shook it violently, after he trespassed onto Tommy's property! ( I say Tommy because the mother is clueless)

    Also, Where is Tommy's Father????

At one point in the movie, Santa eats peanut butter cookies, of which he is severely allergic... which begs the question of Why does Santa have all this magic, and not cure his allergies, let alone turn a regular pen into an EPIpen???

Yet, Santa was saved by an EPI-pen that was kept under the sink in a dusty first-aid box, which Tommy was ordered to find, while his mother didn't have the clarity of mind to fetch it herself!!!

Also, the mother didn't notice a very large, red old man snoring on the floor three feet away from her, while the neighbor Marcus, could hear from the backyard of his home...

Is this movie bad? Yes it is. Is it so bad, that it is really good? No, it's just bad.

There were other discontinuities in the film that have not been mentioned in this review, however there are enough to test the patience of even a Buddhist Monk.

If after this review, you still want to watch this movie, then you should probably watch the sequel.

I'm sure it's great for third-graders and younger, although I might be being generous going that old. I am not in third grade, nor do I have anyone in that age group in my house. while I can tolerate many things, this was essentially a Christmas episode of too cute on animal planet but with an attempt at plot. I couldn't finish it.

I love talking cat movies and was looking forward to a Christmas movie. For an adult this movie is not even remotely good. The kittens are cute, and that is just about it. The very young children may or may not enjoy this. It's a little slow even for the youngsters. But it might keep them busy for awhile.

Worst f--ING thing I've ever seen. I think the seeing this movie ruined not just my Christmas, but also my marriage. My daughter's school had a politically correct Christmas concert this year - with no mention of the word Christmas, and it was more entertaining than this film. Watching this movie obit reminds you that life is pointless and one day we will all die... ultimately alone.

Within the first 15 minutes it said the dreaded sentence parents fear 'santa isnt real' whaaaaa?? Turned it off seconds later. Theres enough people that ruin the magic for children. Judging by the rest of the reviews weve not missed anything.

Despite my reservations about the ridiculousness of the premise (and it was) and finding the cover looking like most cheap-looking family film covers, watched 'Santa Claws' anyway because of my love of Christmas films/specials, anything Christmas and finding kittens cute and usually very difficult to dislike.

Actually sort of wanted to like 'Santa Claws' in a guilty pleasure sort of way, but unfortunately it is as awful as the rating and reviews say and as far as Christmas-themed films go it is down there as one of the worst. Should have trusted my reservations, but wanted to be fair on the film as is intended with every film viewed. Can't find much redeeming about it, other than perhaps the odd nice soundtrack choice. There is no warmth or charm at all, lots of mean spirit and what should have been easy to like actually grated.

'Santa Claws' is a cheap-looking film, with colours that are both drab and garish, less than slick and sometimes gimmicky photography and tacky editing that indicated it was all hastily put together. At best the effects are slapdash and again indicative of very rushed and under-budgeted production.

The script fails completely at being tongue-in-cheek, is full of cheese and awkwardness and is very childish and lacking in wit. The story is paper thin and padded while also being very jumpy and rushed structurally, which made the excessive over-familiarity less forgivable. The Christmas spirit just isn't there, there is no charm or warmth, the cute parts are a mix of saccharine and annoying and some of it is mean-spirited and distasteful. Detected no enthusiasm in the direction.

None of the characters are engaging, with the kittens being more obnoxious than cute when there were signs of proper personality going on, their resourcefulness never being sincere or well-intentioned and making for head-scratching moments. Even worse is one of the most despicable bullying mother figures in any family film and the kid is annoying. The acting generally has no energy and some of the actors, especially with the mother, over-act in almost pantomime fashion.

Concluding, awful catastrophe of a film. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Note: I streamed this from TubiTV on a 4K TV. Blurry image. Alright Film.

"Santa Claws" is a family-friendly Christmas movie from The Asylum and not a horror film! What we get is a kitties save Christmas movie for the 40-somethings you know who are obsessed with Santa. That particular character has set security cameras around his residence just in case the jolly elf makes an appearance. We also have a very single parent who is pathologically opposed to Christmas and all who celebrate it. She even takes away her son's mini Christmas tree which he bought himself! These scenes attempt to thread the line of pathetic and funny. One joke wears out as another one begins. It's so unusual for a film like this to be this cynical so you won't change the channel.

Santa in this film is apparently allergic to many things, especially cats. At one house in California, Santa opens a present left by Tommy and is rendered unconscious. Hairball, Mittens, and Patches set out to deliver all the presents to the 5 children, including Tommy, and his 40-something werido neighbor who live on our planet. The kittens are all voiced by Asylum production crew regulars. The voices seem to be intentionally cheesy and the kittens only "speak" occasionally or maybe you just look past their mouths moving. This is the one joke that does wear thin.

The script has a few clever ideas that subvert many tropes of Christmas movies. Santa's reindeer speak like Ninja Turtles and have no regard for Santa who appears to be hired help. His sleigh has a built-in OS that anticipates that "Santa" may be out of commission which the kitties use to assume his role. Santa himself is anything but kid friendly when Tommy accidentally touches him in a way his wife shouldn't....

It doesn't stop there. The neighbor kidnaps one of Tommy's pets to help him look for Santa. Best of all, Tommy's mother and the neighbor grew up next to each other and saw Santa when they were children which apparently made the neighbor ostracized from other kids and made Tommy's mother disagreeable (she's single for a reason). For some reason the neighbor is an adult who still appears on Santa's list. Tommy's mother doesn't. Maybe Santa is a genie?

As I prepared this review, I came to like the movie more and more. I think the intended audience of children and parents can both enjoy it for what it isn't: a sappy Christmas pastime.

Admittably, I didn't really have much of any expectations to this movie, given the synopsis of the storyline. But still, this was a movie that I sat down with the family to watch "Santa Claws" during the Christmas holidays of 2016.

Now, I will say that "Santa Claws" actually turned out to be a rather enjoyable family movie. And it definitely was much better than what I had initially expected.

The story is a bit silly, admittedly, especially for an adult audience. However, the storyline in "Santa Claws" is perfect for the Young members of the family. Jolly old Santa Claus becomes unable to finish his yearly gift run, and a group of kittens have to step up to make sure that Christmas runs its course and that the presents are delivered.

Yeah right, you are thinking that too. And no one would blame you, because the storyline really is silly. But the children love it.

"Santa Claws" actually turned out to be wholehearted and quite entertaining, taking into consideration what it was. And despite a somewhat silly storyline, then there actually was something for everyone in the family to enjoy here. Personally, I was entertained by the cute kittens running around, and I got sucked in to the story quite easily.

This is definitely a movie that is more than well-suited for the younger members of the family, but it is also a movie that the entire family can sit down together and enjoy.

I must admit that I was a bit puzzled by the low rating that the movie had acquired here on IMDb, because I found it to be a rather enjoyable movie actually, just don't put too much into it - take it for what it is.

My rating of "Santa Claws" is a 6 out of 10 stars, as it is a very suitable movie for the entire family.

It's a good movie, don't be dramatic. If you like Christmas and cats, then you'll like the movie. I've always liked movies with pets, and happy endings.
