Short summary

As revenge for being rejected by the Widow Morton, Dr. Pelham fakes his own death and frames her son Alfred for the crime. Alfred enlists the help of Professor Locksley, The Hypnotic Detective, to solve the crime.
Dr. Pelham, a crafty-eyed, past-master in the art of under-world liaisons, proposes to Widow Morton and is refused. Her son, a promising young attorney, long on legal knowledge, but short of cash clients, is easily hoodwinked into the belief that the doctor for some unknown reason is about to become his true benefactor. In revenge for the widow's refusal to accept his heart and hand, the old doctor works out a clever idea, which proves a powerful influence in his favor in combating the minions of the law, who are looking for a motive for the crime. Joe Dorgan and his wife, two notorious characters, help him materially with an end in view. So adroitly were their plans laid, that it was only through the timely services of the keen-witted, quick-thinking mental machinery of the celebrated Locksley, whose superior genius was pitted against theirs, that the unfortunate was brought to the bar of justice.

A print of this film survives in the UCLA Film and Television Archives.
