Baptiste is a desperado whom the police are after for slaying a man in the woods. John Baxter is sent out after him. He goes alone and he gets the man. They make a camp and John goes for wood, which is pointed out to him by Baptiste, who has cleverly led him into a bear trap. The officer is caught in its vise-like grip and left to die.
