Some of the filming of this movie was done onboard Her Majesty's Canadian Ship Montreal in the North Atlantic in January 2018, with a film crew of 9 with 10 cameras onboard.

Filming locations included shots from HMCS Montréal of the Royal Canadian Navy

On Friday, January 25th, 2019, Sony Pictures announced that they would be pushing the film's release date back, for more than a year. Originally scheduled to open two months later on March 22nd, 2019, the film is now scheduled for May 8th, 2020. Additionally, Sony Pictures other upcoming film staring Tom Hanks, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019), also got it's release pushed back from October 18th, 2019 to November 22nd, 2019 that same day.

This is the second movie about World War II that Tom Hanks will be starring in. The first being Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan.
