Nena is woken during the night and sees a mysterious horse riding through the mist in the woods. By the time she wakes her brother, the horse has gone, and Niek doubts it was there at all. In the morning, Nena discovers that local butcher Bernie Kamphuus is unconscious and badly injured in the woods near where she saw the horse. Mak explains more about the curse that the villagers fear: Remmelt Aerink, the original owner of the stables, died in a fire and his horse disappeared and now haunts the nearby woods.
