The opening scene of this richly colored picture shows a pretty country maiden as she meets her lover for the last time, when he informs her that as he is ambitious to marry a girl of wealth they must part forever. The cruel youth then goes to the girl of his choice, leaving the heartbroken little sweetheart to sadly ponder over her shattered hopes. In the next picture we witness the ostentatious wedding procession leaving the church after the ceremony, but the happy young man is unconscious of the fact that the sad little country girl whom he so cruelly jilted is a witness to the proceedings, with tear-dimmed eyes. Like the irony of fate, the old axiom, "money does not always bring happiness," soon becomes a stern reality in the life of the newlywed youth. One day upon returning from a little trip he is surprised to find his wife absent from the home, and upon investigating he happens to pick up a note which she carelessly left on her dresser.
