Trailers "Hallowed Ground (2013)"
The first montage sequence, the one Dylan has in the church, was based on an actual dream that Director Jack Albert had.
Josh Scheibe and Megan Ann Jacobs have actually known each other since they were in grade school.
When writing the script, Jack Albert listened to a music playlist consisting of Slipknot, Disturbed, and Avenged Sevenfold. He offered to share the playlist with Josh Scheibe early in production, to assist with the construction of the character, which Josh Scheibe took advantage of.
Josh Scheibe altered his gait and carried himself differently in order to look more like "a bit of a bruiser." He has cited Tom Hardy 's depiction of Bane as an influence on Dylan's physicality.
Director Jack Albert has an uncredited cameo as the "dog" near the end of the film. Scenes in which he appeared were shot by Josh Scheibe.
The final part of the scene in the basement, where Dylan eggs the Dog on, was completely improvised, done in one take.
The bracelet Josh Scheibe wears in the film is an actual gift given to Director Jack Albert by a friend.
For the post-credits scene, Jack Albert had Josh Scheibe write something on the note for Megan Ann Jacobs to read, without her knowing what it said before the scene was shot.
Josh Scheibe has a slight case of germophobia; thus, the mud-angel scene was particularly mortifying for him, along with the meat he was eating in the pan during the first montage.
Before the first scene with The Elder was shot, Jack Albert privately shared the back-story of the cult with Deanna Strasse. He did the same for Anastasia Wild when she played the role of The Executioner. Josh Scheibe and Megan Ann Jacobs did not learn the details of the backstory until production had finished on the short film.
While still attempting to cast The Elder during Principal Photography, Josh Scheibe and Jack Albert seriously considered having Josh Scheibe play the role of The Elder. Jack Albert decided to hold off until he was absolutely sure there were no females available to play the role.
Many of the scenes were shot within one hour intervals during the work week, and most of the scenes were done in one or two takes.
The final piece of music, "Torn By Fate," was composed by Daniel Hafenstein in under 12 hours. Jack Albert had originally planned to use the Scala & Kolacny Brothers cover of Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody," but when they failed to respond by the requested date, Jack Albert came straight to Daniel Hafenstein.
The last scene of the film to be shot was the final scene of the montage.
There is a scene in the film in which Dylan (clad only in a t-shirt and blue jeans) climbs down snow-covered rocks to fetch a bowl of water. This scene was shot during the winter, and the wind chill near the lake that day was -25 degrees Fahrenheit. The shot was done in one long, unbroken take, though only a few seconds of the climb itself made it into the finished film.
A running gag behind the film's production for the cast and crew was that anything weird or out of continuity was attributed to the film's surreal/absurdist nature.
Daniel Hafenstein actually does not like horror movies.
