Holy Places is bringing you to Bet She'an, one of the oldest cities of the Middle East. This city is proud of its rich historical past, and the most important stage of its development was the Roman period. Bet She'an played an important role due to its geographical location, at the junction of the Jordan River Valley and the Jezreel Valley. It essentially controlled access from Jordan and the inland to the coast, as well as from Jerusalem and Jericho to the Galilee. The abundance of water has made its land fertile and Jewish sages said about Beit She'an: "If the Garden of Eden is in the land of Israel, then its gate is Beit She'an." Today you will see spectacular ruins of the glory that was the Roman and Byzantine city of Bet She'an. Rising above them is the hill on which Biblical Bet She'an stood: Tel Beit She'an.
