Bordering the City and London's West End, Clerkenwell is a fashionable area undergoing huge urban regeneration. But the narrow streets were once home to thousands of Italians in search of a better life. The Italian Church, specialist delis and an organ maker that have been in Clerkenwell for over 150 years now jostle for space with media businesses, galleries and London's huge Crossrail project. Arrivederci Clerkenwell shines a light on one of London's oldest and most well-established migrant communities. Based on stories handed down through generations, the film explores what life was like in the area, the divided loyalties felt by 'Italian Cockneys' during the war, and asks how the community will hold on to its traditions in the face of massive change.
