This little effort was produced and directed by a gent named Denver Dixon.

I could write a whole book about Denver Dixon alias Victor Adamson alias Art James alias (sometimes) Art Mix - and we'll be dealing with the mystery mix of Mr Mix in a different review - but first we have on offer (alas only on VHS) this Jay Wilsey/Buffalo Bill Jr saga in which flat direction, minuscule production values and seedy technical credits showcase the mindlessly knockabout and relentlessly maladroit routines of the firmly obnoxious Mr. Si Jenks.

Oh, yes, Mr. Wilsey (the hero) and Genee Boutell (the girl) and Lafe McKee (the girl's dad) are in the movie too. Not that you'd notice! One thing that just about all critics agree on is that Mr. Dixon is irredeemably bad. However, not all the players plumb these same real depths of Rawhide Romance.

I enjoyed this B western comedy far more than I expected. Even the fistfight between Buffalo Bill Jr. and three or four guys is pretty funny. Despite the poor acting by ingénue Genee Boutell -- who looks, acts and is named like she has aspirations of being a Pre-Code Ginger Rogers in Arabian Nights movies. Si Jenks plays the tall-tale-telling Old Coot Cookie and Lafe McKee plays the ingénue's father.

The whole thing starts as Bill vows to swear off women forever, so it is clear how the whole thing will end. I credit director Victor Adamson for letting the comedy flow freely in a genre in which romance was often an annoying imposition.
