Short summary

Now settled in Genovia, Princess Mia faces a new revelation: she is being primed for an arranged marriage to an English suitor.
Princess Mia has just turned 21 and is supposed to succeed her grandmother as the Queen of Genovia. But Viscount Mabrey who wishes that his nephew who is also in line to the throne to be the new ruler, reminds everyone of a law that states that an unmarried woman can't be made queen, and with the backing of parliament, he opposes Mia's coronation. Queen Clarice asks that Mia be allowed time to find a husband, and she is given 30 days, but Mabrey tries to do what he can to stop that: his nephew, Nicholas has met Mia and they are both attracted to each other but Mia upon learning who he is, dislikes and doesn't trust him but Clarice has invited him to stay with them for the 30 day period to keep an eye on him.

Trailers "Plötzlich Prinzessin 2 (2004)"

Julie Andrews performs her own stunt in the mattress-surfing scene.

The song, "Your Crowning Glory", was the first time Julie Andrews had sung in public, or on-screen since she had throat surgery in 1997. She reportedly nailed the song on the first take, and brought tears to the eyes of the crew present.

Anne Hathaway's mother, Kate McCauley Hathaway, appears in the movie as the Choir Director.

The Disneyland Hotel has transformed a bedroom of the Presidential Suite into a re-creation of Princess Mia's suite from the movie. The room includes set pieces from the movie.

In the beginning scenes, when Princess Mia is explaining what has gone on since the first movie, she says that she and Michael have broken up, and he is now touring with his band. Robert Schwartzman declined to do the sequel in order to focus on his band, Rooney, which was touring the country at the time the movie was being made.

Julie Andrews's line, "I've done a lot of flying in my time," is a reference to her most iconic role with Disney, Mary Poppins (1964).

Julie Andrews loves fresh flowers, and convinced Garry Marshall to use only real flowers in the arrangements inside Rinaldi Castle. During the filming, she was constantly adjusting the arrangements, removing dying blossoms, et cetera. The centerpiece of the kitchen table (in the scene where Nicholas tops his chocolate mousse) got switched from a large piece (as seen in the background) to the cluster of small flowers seen in the final cut, the original arrangement got in the way of the filming.

Reportedly, when Raven-Symoné was told she would sing a song with Julie Andrews for the movie, she was so moved, she started crying.

At the royal garden party, Princess Mia asks a guest how her three grandchildren, Lily, Charlotte, and Sam are doing. Those are the names of Director Garry Marshall's three grandchildren. The guest was Garry Marshall's wife, Barbara Marshall.

The jewelry used by Mia and the Queen is all real. A guard was on-set the whole time. The most expensive piece is the necklace the Queen is wearing at the wedding.

Chris Pine's first major movie debut.

Hannah Schneider, who played "Dancing Princess Hannah" in the slumber party sequence, is Julie Andrews' granddaughter.

In the beginning of the movie, Anne Hathaway accidentally flings her bracelet, which is caught by a palace guard, and he says "It happens all the time." This is the same line, spoken by the same actor, who catches Julia Roberts' character's escargot in Pretty Woman (1990).

Brother and sister Spencer Breslin and Abigail Breslin have roles in this film. Spencer as Prince Jacques, and Abigail as the orphan girl Carolina from the parade.

Between the releases of The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, Heather Matarazzo (who plays Lilly Moscovitz) revealed that she is gay, or, colloquially, "came out of the closet." In Lilly's first appearance in Princess Diaries 2 she emerges from Mia's closet.

The member of Parliament trapped between the two arguing brothers at the meeting concerning the orphans' home is singer and songwriter Paul Williams. His character's name is Lord Harmony.

At one point, Joe (Hector Elizondo) warns Viscount Mabrey (John Rhys-Davies) to leave Clarisse (Julie Andrews) alone, noting that he has "diplomatic immunity in forty-six countries, including Puerto Rico." Hector Elizondo was born in New York City, but his parents emigrated from Puerto Rico.

In March 2016, Garry Marshall announced that Hathaway, who was pregnant with her first child, would appear in a third Princess Diaries film after she gave birth. Unfortunately, with Marshall's death in July 2016, the project has been postponed.

Lord Crawley and his identical twin brother (who don't get along) tersely acknowledge each other by their first names, Jerry and Dean. This is a reference to Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, who were the most successful comedy team of the 1950s, yet were known to have had several heated arguments late in their joint career. They finally split up amidst a great deal of bitterness in 1956, and didn't speak to each other for twenty years.

Julie Andrews stated in 2012, that a Princess Diaries 3 didn't happen due to this film being a failure (despite the fact that it made 95 million dollars domestically, and 134 million dollars worldwide, on a budget of 40 million dollars), and that Anne Hathaway was too old to reprise her role.

At one point, Mia refers to Nicholas as Prince Charming. Chris Pine would go on to play Prince Charming in Into the Woods (2014).

The song sung by the opera singer is from "La Traviata." This is the same opera featured in the film Pretty Woman (1990).

Despite the death of director Garry Marshall in 2016, rumors still circulate regarding a third movie. Hector Elizondo, Julie Andrews, and Anne Hathaway have all said that they would return for a third film if the story did justice to Marshall and the first two films.

Sophia Loren is in the birthday party scene, when Raven-Symoné taps Anne Hathaway on the back while the latter is sampling the cake frosting. Seen right between and behind the two, wearing glasses and gold dress.

During the royal garden party, a singer sings "Miracles Happen" (the finale song from the first movie) in Mandarin.

At the end of the movie, when the band is playing, Garry Marshall is playing the bass drum on the left.

The scene shown in trailers, in which Princess Mia says, "Grandma said shut up, shut up!" was cut from the final film.

In the garden, when Mia is practicing her archery, Nicholas enters whistling. The piece he is whistling is the main theme from the third movement of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2.

Julie Andrews and John Rhys-Davies appeared in Victor/Victoria (1982). This is their second movie together.

Queen Clarisse tells Mia, "Nepotism should be in the arts, not in plumbing." Director Garry Marshall involved many of his family members in this movie, including his wife, Barbara Marshall (Lady Jerome), their children, Kathleen, Scott, and Lori Marshall (Charlotte Kutaway, Security Guard Shades, and Teacher Seacliff), their grandchildren Sam Marshall and Charlotte and Lily MarshallFricker (the CherubCheeked Ring Bearer, Princess Grace, and Princess Camille), and their niece, Tracy Reiner (Lady Anthony).

In an article published in Variety in 2015 to mark the ten-year anniversary of the release of Brokeback Mountain, director Ang Lee said that he was unfamiliar with Anne Hathaway before her audition, and he was told by the casting director that "the next actress coming in to read was going to apologize for her clothes and make-up, but to just let her do that, and go into the reading." This was because Hathaway was auditioning for Brokeback Mountain during her lunch break from filming The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) (also on the Universal lot), and, according to Lee, she read for the part of Lureen "wearing heavy make-up and dressed as a princess."

When Nicholas is throwing pebbles at Mia's window, he is whistling the famous "Flower Duet" from Delibes's opera "Lakme".

DIRECTOR CAMEO (Garry Marshall): Middle drummer in the coronation scene.

Elizabeth Gudenrath (as Beth Anne Garrison) is seen as Princess Mia's Princeton friend, Anna, in Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) and previously portrayed Anna of Plötzlich Prinzessin! (2001) cheerleaders Lana, Anna, and Fontana.

In the Genovian Independence Day parade, the announcer introduces the Mertz marching band directed by Lucille Carmichael. These are names from I Love Lucy (1951), which Princess Mia later confesses to Chris Pine's character is a favorite of hers.

Security guard Lionel, played by Erik Bragg, was also featured in Plötzlich Prinzessin! (2001) as Bobby Bad (teen on cell phone during final softball scene).

In the parade sequence with the orphans, in the top right corner, the marquee of the Genovian National Theatre indicates a production of "Wrong Turn at Lungfish" is being staged. This play was co-written by Garry Marshall and Lowell Ganz. This was also the play in which Kathleen Marshall made her off-Broadway debut in New York City.

In the scene where Mia's evening out is revealed on TV, Lilly is wearing a Berkeley t-shirt. Chris Pine graduated from the University of California, Berkeley.

At the announcement of the royal engagement, Anne Hathaway does a rolling wave to the crowd just like one of the previous popes.

Stars Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine both appear in DC Universe films: she as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises and he as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman.

In the first movie at the annual ball the couple looking at the statue mia earlier shoved a finger into says "they're famous for their cheese, maybe it's string cheese" and in the second movie at the birthday party a guest is heard saying "i hope they have string cheese" making a reference to the first movie

It was based on the book series "The Princess Diaries", written by Meg Cabot.

Several of the automobiles are not familiar to American viewers. In the beginning of the movie, the limousine is a 1972 Mercedes-Benz model 600. The two Police escort vehicles are Nissan Hyperminis. In the same town square, is a 1956 Fiat 600 Multipla and a 1962 Autobianchini Bianchina (Bee-an-cheena). Another Mercedes-Benz 600 is seen at the twenty-first birthday party. A 1966 Mustang convertible shows up later. There is a GEM eL, by Gemcar, maker of utility vehicles for off road use, such as golf courses, et cetera. The Viscount's chauffeur driven 1952 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, and finally the non-four-wheel vehicles, which the three interestingly are all Piaggio's. A three-wheeled Ape (Ah-pay) P501, plus two scooters, a Vespa 125 PX, and a Vespa ET4 125. This list of cars is from The IMCDB (Internet Movie Cars Data Base) imcdb.org/movie_368933-The-Princess-Diaries-2--Royal-Engagement.

How refreshing to attend a non-animated, G-rated movie and enjoy it! As a 41-year-old woman attending with an 82-year-old friend, I expected a light, pretty, romantic fairy tale, and that's exactly what I got. Never saw the first movie, but the "catch-up" work at the beginning made that a non-issue.

Surely, no one would go to this movie expecting to find the meaning of life portrayed on the screen. Come on, folks, this is a Disney princess flick with Julie Andrews and a G-rating; is anybody expecting deep philosophy?

Chick flick? Of course! Especially appealing to young (under 18) chicks? Definitely! Enjoyable to other adult women and men who just want a happy trip to fantasy land with no worries about sex, blood, or blue language? Absolutely!

Take this film at face value and you'll enjoy it. If you can't do that, don't bother seeing it. There are plenty of other "profound" movies out there to inspire, teach, or depress you! Go for a good time and you'll have it.

I remember seeing the first movie not expecting much from it, but when I walked out I was pleasantly surprised! When I saw the previews to this movie I thought "Oh god! Another movie ruined by a sequel!" I was slightly wrong in my thinking, because this was in fact a cute, light-hearted, feel-good movie. Maybe it's not as good as the first, but I still thought it was rather enjoyable. Anne Hathaway is a great actress and I'm so glad her talent was discovered and recognized. Julie Andrews gave a great performance as the former Queen of Genovia. This movie may have been predictable and a big ball of fluff, but what do you expect to a sequel to a Disney movie where Pixar wasn't involved? I would recommend this movie to anyone, just as long as you go into it knowing it's different from the first. I'm just praying there won't be a third movie.

What does it mean to be a princess? Besides wearing tiaras and twin sets, dancing at balls…attracting fame and fortune simply for being beautiful? A princess is stuck forever in extended adolescence – she only has the trappings of power. Symbolically, at least, a queen has real power, and does not necessarily need to be beautiful.

For hundreds of years, fairy tales have filtered through our consciousness to involuntarily fuel our dreams. In the last century, what began as cautionary tales to lecture children have been sugar-spun into a Disneyfied notion of desire. But with Disney's latest, Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, the recent trend of recasting fairy tales to reflect modern ideals continues, albeit with a gentler hand than yesteryear's feminists.

Simply, it's not enough to be a princess anymore. Although ostensibly a conventional tween romantic comedy, Princess Diaries 2 features a heroine who is more independent than Drew Barrymore's character in Ever After (1998) and less frustrated than Julia Stiles' Mary Donaldson clone in the The Prince and Me (2004). And, even better, in Princess Diaries 2, there are no handsome princes, just boys on the side.

I'm not a fan of much of director Gary Marshall's work – although Pretty Woman's a classic, Runaway Bride, Raising Helen and the original Princess Diaries are very ordinary films. But in this enchanting sequel, he and screenwriter Shonda Rhimes give us a character who's not just beautiful, klutzy and funny. Mia Mignonette Thermopoulos Rinaldi is growing into her power.

Princess Diaries 2 begins five years after the original at Mia's 21st birthday party. After the schemings of John Rhys Davies triggers an ancient Genovian law, Mia has one month to marry, otherwise she will forfeit the throne. As two very different suitors court her, Mia relies on her now affectionate relationship with her grandmother, Queen Clarisse (Julie Andrews), to guide her. Meanwhile security chief Joe (Hector Elizondo) woos the Queen.

There are hackneyed moments, the worst of which is a pajama party featuring dozens of little princesses who are designed to reflect their aspirant audience. Although enjoyable, this scene serves no dramatic function, except perhaps to showcase Julie Andrew's expertise in mattress surfing. The change in Queen Clarisse's character is also unexplained – she's transformed from being an acerbic biddy in the first film to being the dream grandmother. However, this film is entertaining, humorous and has a positive message. The cast and characters are also strong, particularly Anne Hathaway as Mia, and there's plenty of chemistry between her and Nicholas (Chris Pine). Heather Matarazzo and Fat Louie the cat also make brief appearances.

Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement improves on the original, and will be a particular hit with its target audience: tween and teen girls. But this film's got enough substance to appeal to an older audience…if you let it. ***/***** stars.

    SPOILERS

As Princess Diaries 2 winds to a close, we find Princess Mia firmly in place on the throne and anxious to gain full control of Genovia. This paves the way for "Princess Diaries 3: World At War." As the story begins, Mia has wrested control over the kingdom from her grandmother, whom she has banished from the land. After framing Prince Nicolas for treason, there is no one to stand in her way--she alone wields the full might of Genovia. While dressing in a bland khaki uniform, adorned with medals, she gleefully beams, "I have my own military industrial complex, that is sooo cooool!"

Hours later, Genovian troops cross the border and invade France. Heather Matarazzo pleads with Mia to stop the invasion, but nothing can satisfy Mia's hunger for power. Though her Generals want to keep the conflict localized--Mia orders Genovian tanks to push through Belgium (to attain the most direct route to Paris).

Hector Elizondo pleads with U.N. not to impose sanctions (claiming that only the poor of Genovia will suffer). The United States declares its neutrality, but Great Britain, bound to Belgium by treaty, commences air strikes against Genovian supply lines.

Princess Mia, determined to outlast any opposition, sends a Genovian contingent blitzing through the Balkans and charging toward the oil-rich Middle East. Meanwhile, on the western front, Princess Mia's propensity for the use of chemical munitions (mustard gas in particular) earns her the title 'Mia I, The Blood Queen.'

The Belgian stalemate and the British threat to commit ground troops cause Mia to exclaim, "Limey troops fighting Genovian Elite Units? SHUT UP!" Seeing the need to end the conflict before the British can respond, Queen Mia sees only one option: a cataclysmic escalation of the war. Genovia simultaneously invades Poland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, Norway, and Southern Russia.

Mia throws a grand ball to celebrate the war, inviting all the heads of state from the nations she's invading. Mia, Heather Matarazzo, Raven, and Mandy Moore from the first film, whisper and gossip about all the cute young princes that Mia is subjugating. High jinx then ensue when her crown is knocked off by an inept server and it lands in the soup! Meanwhile, on the front, 50,000 Genovians and 75,000 Allied troops are killed in a catastrophic assault on well-fortified positions. The lines stabilize, the war begins to wear on.

During a morale-boosting trip to the front, Mia operates a surface-to-air missile battery for the cameras and accidentally shoots down a U.S. Red Cross Relief plane. This incident enrages the American public and the U.S. joins the war, promising to commit "any resources necessary to rip Mia's bloody claws from European soil."

Faced with the overwhelming might of the U.S., and as Larry Miller prepares her new 'Conquest-chic Look,' Queen Mia gives the order to construct a complex trench network surrounding Genovia. She stern- heartedly exclaims, "I may be defeated, but if I am, I shall drag a world down with me! A world in flames!"

Only in "Princess Diaries 4: Fall of the Blood Queen" will the conflict draw to a close.

Disney have proved yet again why they are a head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to producing movies that aren't admittedly brain food, but are "good clean fun", (if you'll forgive the cliché), for kids. For every little girl who ever dreamed of becoming a princess, this film is the perfect way to spend two hours.

True, it was grossly unfaithful to Meg Cabot's original novels, but still managed to convey the charm and slick veneer that has come to be associated with Disney, and the valuable message of independence for little princesses everywhere.

For the more mature audience, this is a happy chance to revisit childhood, or simply breathe a sigh of relief that what your child is watching is not in any way compromising or damaging, and will not have to be explained later.

Good message. Solid performances. Sweet (if bland and predictable at times) story line. Great movie!

Highly recommended for two hours of escapism on a summer's afternoon.

Anyone who liked the first Princess Diaries movie will like this. It's sweet, it's funny, and there are gorgeous men and gorgeous clothes. My best friend and I are in our late 20's and although it was predictable as any chick flick is...it was well worth our 9 dollar admissions. We loved it, and left feeling happy.

Mia arrives back in Genovia only to discover that due to a old law still on the books, she has to marry in order to rule her country. Unfortunately there is another candidate. Mia proceeds to deal with her life with her usual mix of clumsiness and sarcasm, with best friend Lily along for the ride. Memorable scenes include the ball, the parade, the wooden leg, and the continuing romance between Joe and Queen Clarice.

The sequel is still funny and it's worth watching to hear Julie Andrews sing again. The "mattress surfing scene is wonderful especially when the Queen (Andrews) pops in and everyone thinks OMG the party's over. But NO! Anne Hathaway is absolutely gorgeous, so guys will of course enjoy the "eye candy" and the ladies have some pretty hunky guys around too. The real story of this movie though is the fleshing out of the relationship between Joe (Hector Elizondo) and the Queen. That's the most interesting subplot in the story and the most enjoyable too. The ending is somewhat of a predictable surprise. I found it to be enjoyable. Not as witty as the original but still worth the watch.

I am a frequent visitor to the cinema with my three daughters and I have to sit through films that are regularly panned by the critics. Despite that there is usually a source of escapism in most films that make a visit an enjoyable occasion.

Princess diaries 2 is ham fisted drivel with few redeeming qualities. The screenplay is full of grotesque amateurish caricatures that irritate from early in the film. The writer could not decide which country it was set in. Perhaps in attempt to be cosmopolitan there were a broad range of European nationalities represented united in being portrayed as idiots. Presumably because they aren't American and therefore don't understand the working of the real world.

A complete waste of the talents of Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews and the bald bloke.

I finally saw this movie on DVD with my granddaughter. What a delight! Julie Andrews is as wonderful as always, and Anne Hathaway is just pure joy to watch. I think that movie goers will be watching this young lady for many years to come. Watching the DVD allowed us to view the deleted scenes and I must say to Garry Marshall, "you left the best scene of the movie on the cutting room floor!" Mia and Nicholas in the kitchen is so funny!! Anne does her "Audrey Hepburn" role like a pro, and Chris Pine is excellent in all of his "various roles." It is really too bad that it didn't make it into the movie. The costume designer did a great job throughout the movie. The dress for Princess Mia to wear to the coronation was incredible! It was without a doubt made for Anne Hathaway! The "Princess Diaries" movies have introduced Julie Andrews to a whole new generation of little girls and Anne Hathaway has secured herself a role in movies that will be timeless. I dare say that she will one day enjoy them with her granddaughter.

Having read all the books in the series by Meg Cabot, I knew I was going to have high standards, and I was personally quite impressed! I mean, this movie? I can watch it again and again and again, and not get tired of it! It's magic seems to last forever! Anne Hathaway plays a wonderful portrayal of Princess Mia, and her performance is never unsatisfactory. I think, to quote the previous commenter,...the 'transition', was quite effective! The movie was intended to describe Mia's life after she graduates from college. It was not meant to continue where the books left off, and if that was the case, Meg Cabot, wouldn't have let the movie go into production!!! And yes, there may have been 'eye-candy', but what's a comedy-romance without it? Many congratulations on the movie's success, it was well-deserved!

I just recently viewed The Princess Diaries and over all liked it pretty much, so I figured I would see the sequel. I rented it yesterday and watched it this morning and it seemed to me like it was the same plot as before only with a couple different elements. The film also felt very rushed in some aspects, some of the plots or characters that took place seemed to come and go. Although I'm still not sure since I haven't read the books, but the movie itself was just predictable and a bit too silly at times, it just seemed like it could insult the audience it was aimed at.

Mia has graduated college and is off to Genovia to become queen and her grandmother, Clarrise is about to give up her title. But Genovia law is that before Mia is to become queen she must marry someone. She is falling for a young man, Nicolas, but he is also up for the throne as king, so his uncle is trying to set Mia up where she will loose her crown before she could even have it. Mia has to decide wither to go with her heart and let herself love Nicolas or have her duty for her country and marry for Genovia.

The Princess Diaries 2 has some cute and funny moments, I won't lie, I did laugh a little bit, but over all I have to say that it just could have been more, you know? The actors didn't seem to click as well as they did in the first film. Not to mention how quickly the character Michael went away and Lily just was there for 5 minutes to make like a semi quick cameo and just be out of the story. If you want too, feel free to watch this movie, it's harmless, but it's not a great movie if you're looking for one.

Maybe this movie is enjoyable for the target audience (10-15 year olds), but for everyone else I think it's a waste of time. It was much too long and had a lot of ambiguous scenes added for the little girls watching it. Examples include a scene where Mia walks into a room in her castle closely resembling a mall, that is filled with clothes and jewelry. Another scene is a pajama party (Mia is 21) in which stuck up little girls sing karaoke and slide down stairs. The script is one of the worst I have ever seen. The lines that are supposed to be funny are so dumb it's almost funny. All in all, don't watch this movie unless you are a huge fan of one of the stars or are stuck on deserted island with only this movie. My favorite part of this movie were a few of the songs, including Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson.

I love the Princess Diaries 2, I like it better than the original, which is very rare for sequels. I admit, it is a bit cheesy, but sometimes cheesiness works. Anne Hathaway is one of my favorite young actresses, and oh my god the guy who plays Nicholas (chris pine) is so hot! The chemistry between Mia and Nicholas is amazing, and the story is sweet and cute. I love Hector Elizondo and I wish he had a larger role in the second film, but he's still fabulous in it. I'm also so glad that Mia stood up for women and refused to get married just because the law told her too. I'm sure Nicholas would have married her if she asked him, heck, Andrew was at the altar, but she wasn't prepared to give up her life to make the men who made the law happy. I can't say enough about this movie! Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

I will just say that the one good thing about this movie is that it's really nice to see Julie Andrews singing again. There is no debating the fact that she has an amazing voice. What does bother me is this increasing trend of teensploitation movies that are appearing regularly in the cinemas. Film makers appear to have found a genre that appeals to the teenage girl who still puts the pillow case on her head and dreams of the perfect wedding and boy are they sticking to it. Take one virginally attractive young woman, give her no brains but an abundance of good intentions, place her in a variety of bumbling situations and add one completely plastic love interest. Acting school? Only add as a very last resort if character's can't manage basic facial expression. Completely ignore the only two interesting characters and their complex love story to focus on the teen dream of the "perfect man," and the fight to win him from the dark side. Even makes the first Princess Diaries look like Citizen Kane. Very very Boring.

This movie is probably one of the worst i've seen all year...

Except for having one of the most predicable and uninteresting story lines of any movie i've ever seen, it gives me chills to think, that this is actually what some, and after the making of this movie even more, people think that life in Europe is like. More than that though this movie is also pretty much a commercial for abolishing monarchy, in that it portrays the system and its supporters as either idiotic or evil, While I personally don't really care as long as a system of government has freedom guaranteed for it's citizens, this movie says to me that its a bad system as long as its not the one the Americans use.

And While I realize this is a movie and should be regarded as such, a fictional story, I find it to be too close to reality to not be closer lest it be an open insult to anyone who ever took a European history or politics course.

You can hate me for saying so but that is what i feel.

I am teenager residing in Arizona and chose to see this movie when I was on my last day of my cold I was having (meaning, for the youth that really are stupid, I was absent from school). Now, this movie was supposed to be aimed to teenagers and pre-teens, preferably girls. I remember seeing the original and I was just curious to see how they would do the sequel (since most movie's with sequels are really bad).

I got in the theater, noticing only a few people here and there (mostly withered old ladies) and checking the rating age. "G". Oh god, not G. No blood, no cuss words, no nothing' that I enjoyed seeing. G movies always have scared me, even when I was a little kid. This struck up my fears of seeing this movie.

I sat in my chair, only to see childish movie advertisements go on the screen. And then it started.

It started...and I wanted to die right there.

The narration voice over just seemed so annoying. They absolutely changed EVERYTHING FROM THE ORIGINAL! Making it cheap. Very cheap. They had those Disney stars like Raven go and be one of the princesses. The jokes were corny, too corny for my tastes. And they used phrases that made me shudder. It was totally unrealistic, it was trying too hard, it just was bad. And then forcing a song into it. I maybe laughed one or two times during that whole movie. Most of the time those laughs were because it was either unrealistic or just down right corny.

It was too Disney-esque. Now let me say this, I'm not the big Disney fan. Most of their films are too predictable and don't have much meaning to some of their films. I could predict almost everything that was going to happen. The klutz jokes were getting old and the movie was too long for my liking, but then out of nowhere. IT ENDED! TIME FOR ANOTHER MOVIE...I guess.

Only that chair in the backrow of the theater, that was reserved for me, will be empty if another movie Princess Diaries comes out.

You'd think that after 5 years since we last met her, Mia would have developed something close to maturity! I went to see this at the theatre because i quite liked the first movie, however, as is often the case with sequels, it offers nothing new and entertains not. Really, really bad. I actually felt embarrassed for the people involved in this movie...I mean the whole slumber party thing, (just one example)takes this movie beyond fairy tale into a realm of absolute idiocy. All efforts of humour are overdone and you just don't sympathise with any of the characters as you did with the first. In short: this is a disappointing and boring sequel from Disney.

The thing that disappointed me about this movie was the title. I have read most of the Princess Diaries books and I really like them. So the fact that the movie is called the same thing is annoying since it has absolutely nothing to do with the books. If you have read the books and want to see the movie just go in knowing that there is no relation between the two whatsoever. They are two completely different things. Once you know and accept this, you can enjoy the movie. It is pretty nice, with good acting. There is also a scene where we listen to Julie Andrews singing again! It is definitely a cute movie to watch and enjoy with the family!

The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement is an unneeded sequel and for adults the movie isn't very good. Mia {Anne Hathaway}, the new princess of Genovia, is ready to assume her role when she learns she may have to become queen even sooner than expected. The catch: she must get married first. With the help of her grandmother {Julie Andrews}, they begin to weed through possible candidates. I think the plot was a little weak and of course the film is predictable. The first one had a lot more charm but this sequel is rather boring. Sometimes the film is charming and that's due to its likable cast. Anne Hathaway does a great job but she can't save the film. Julie Andrews does a good job as well but her singing return was a little disappointing. Heather Matarazzo, Raven ,Larry Miller and Caroline Goodall all have small roles and they do a decent job but I think they could have left out Ravens character. Garry Marshall returns to direct and while he does a better job with this film then Raising Helen, he still could have tried harder with this one. The movie is very unrealistic as well but its a kids movie and it has a fairy tale story so it doesn't try to be realistic. There are a lot of cheesy scenes like the slumber party and most of these scenes are just not funny or enjoyable. I actually enjoyed the first one but this one was just long and not very interesting. The film is 113 minutes long but they don't have a lot of interesting material to fill the running time. The kids I saw it with didn't like it that much either also most of the funny lines are used in the trailer so it doesn't extend much past that. Rating 4/10, skip this sequel and go watch Ella Enchanted it's a lot more enjoyable.

The sequel to the highly successful Princess Diaries has come. This time, Mia who is slowly but surely adapting in her life as a princess is faced with a dilemma wherein she has to according to an obscure law must marry before she can ascend to the throne of Genovia. She must no chose between her duty to her new homeland or the affairs of her heart. In the background, lurks characters that are to benefit should she choose not to take the crown.

My very first reaction after watching the film was that I did not really enjoy the humour that the film had. There were a lot of elements that was taken from the first film. Whereas in the first film, it proved to be funny and quite charming, in this film it was the complete opposite. It's just like you listening to a joke that you have already heard before; it just doesn't have the same effect on you unlike the first time. It really looked quite silly that Anne Hathaway, who obviously has matured since the last PD movie, would come up with the same clumsy moves. In the past she could have gotten away with it but not this time around. I sincerely hope this is the last time she goes and does a movie like this because she has definitely outgrown this type of roles.

The story I also thought was rather dull and boring. It's pretty much a run of the mill story, which is really one of the weaker points of this movie. Yes it was rather predictable.

Overall this movie was a weak sequel and rather one to forget. I really hope that this franchise be put to rest as I really think a third film would really harm the franchise in the end. Then again this movie did make almost $100 Million and Disney might just try to squeeze a little more from the film.

This movie lacks everything that was good about Princess Diaries 1 - a witty, honestly funny, smart storyline. They realized they could make a lot of money off of this movie, no matter what crap they put out there; this was the result.

I suppose this film has its good moments, which are mostly romantic moments that I enjoyed. But the whole basis of the relationship was preposterous; Mia sure got rid of Michael quickly.

I recommend this movie to little girls 11 or younger and who can't afford a more decent movie. To everyone else, skip it or find yourself rolling your eyes every 5 seconds into this cringe-inducing movie.

I just read a comment about how horrible and predictable this movie is, but it is actually a very good movie! Some of my friends even think it's better than the first! The characters are funny, elegant and clumsy!, and they really add beauty to this movie! Usually I don't like sequels, but this one is a perfect continuance of the first movie. The actors/actresses and the direction is beautiful! This movie allows the watcher to laugh and cry almost in the same scene. Movies are almost always predictable-that's why we love the classics and watch movies more than once! If the princess had not gotten with her love, would we like the movie? I doubt it... Anyway, I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone! My parents even liked it-there were a few scenes where they even cried. If you've seen the Sound Of Music..it's amazing to hear Julie Andrews sing again!

I am gonna feel really bad about this later because it was suppose to be such an innocent, fun loving film but heck, i'm gonna go ahead and blast this film cause i just can't help myself. WOO!

If ever there were a film that epitomizes the term 'chick flick' this is it right here. Step up step up ladies and gents, but fair thee be warned: The following ride could induce vomiting, nausea, and/or gagging.

Okay first thing that needs to get sorted out of this mess is the boomstick thing. I'm talking about the boom mic...we're not suppose to see it. I know i know, maybe this director wasn't paying attention in film school but i am pretty sure you don't need to go to school to figure that out. I mean damn, the boom mic shows up like every 5 mins. Even the kids in the audience were laughing at it.

The whole plot was like a fairytale, as it should have been. But perhaps they should have made it a cartoon. The sweet, lovey dubby parts were overwhelming and definitely too much to handle. You know when you see something so cute that it makes you sick? Okay, let me paint you a picture: You're in a huge room, its all pink and its filled with millions of teddy bears, fluffy pink boas, cupcakes, koala bear babies, and giant lolly pops. Put all that cute cuddly stuff in a bottle, squeeze till its in concentrated form and then spray it all over the silver screen. That would be the best description of it.

What does it feel like to watch it? I would compare it to being kicked in the stomach. Its the 5rd movie, (ahh yes nice to add to the collection)that i felt like walking out on. To top it off, we all got nice pretty cards with make up tips to make us all look like princesses. It even has a section that teaches you how to properly put on a tiara. Sailor Moon! Where art thou!

In conclusion, umm.... 5 PUKES out of 5. YEAH! BTW: Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Unbreakable, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolution were the other 4 masterpieces.

I completely disagree with critics reviews of this movie!! I am a 25 yr old married woman mother of 2 and I love it and I watch it every week!! It kept with the whole plot of Mia growing up to become a woman not a teenager anymore(people do have to grow up you know you cant make a 2nd movie and have her still a teenager) and finding true love and making sacrifices in life for her country! My mother even enjoys watching both princess diaries with me and my children. I really do hope that they get everyone back for one last big movie finale of the royal wedding and that it is just as great as the first 2 are! I give this movie a 10 out of 10 because its a wonderful movie that makes you just feel like a little girl again that there is a prince charming out there!
