Short summary

Tayla comes in from school and goes to kitchen where she suddenly intrudes on her old sister. The drugs can be seen on the table accompanied by the belt she used to strap up her arm. Yasmin looks unkept and really doesn't make much eye contact with her sister as she enters the room. There is a lot of hostility and tension but it gets diffused with a big secret that Tayla decides to share with Yasmin. As things come into perspective for Tayla, she offers her sympathy and help towards her sister. This gesture is met with a strong and stubborn voice which then ends up in a fight. The ending is heated, unpredictable and full of regret.

This shoot was split into two separate days.

Only 2 people were on crew for this shoot, R.M. Moses & Kadeem Antoine.

This short was Dilan Avsar's first acting role.

The cardigan that Sophie Miller is wearing was smudged with a sharpie and ripped by hand to give her an unkept look.

"Blowing on Embers" is an emotional and thought-provoking short film, based in London. It follows the story of a young teen and her mother, who deals with addiction. The short film manages to show how a damaged relationship and how hope for a better life, can really seem so close, but yet so far. The film is based around two actresses, who both play off each other very well. As well as a great musical theme which plays throughout the short film, there are great visuals and a great direction by the director, R.M Moses. The film has potential to be adapted into a longer film and the short film leaves us wanting more, but doesn't feel like we weren't given enough at the same time. All in all, this is a great short film that was a pleasure to watch.
