THE WINDOW is an independent American horror film, retitled THE LADY IN BLACK here in the UK in order to cash in on the Hammer remake of THE WOMAN IN BLACK and its sequel. It's nothing like the Hammer film, instead what we get is a slice of psychological horror about your everyday guy who finds himself haunted by weird and disturbing visions. Is he going out of his mind?

Unfortunately you won't care because this truly is appalling stuff. It's an amateur hour level production all round, with an unknown cast failing to act to the point of woodenness, and a flabby script that goes all over the place without anything really sticking. When the film first starts I thought it showed the odd bit of potential here and there, however as the running time progresses many scenes just consist of characters sitting around and staring out of windows. There's no ghost or horror stuff, not really, and in the end the only thing that sets in is a sense of crushing boredom.

In this very low budget film made by an independent, the main character is haunted by a series of nightmares. However, he realizes he is dreaming of cruel murders committed by the same serial killer. Therefore, he decides to seek and catch the criminal in order to realize the reason why he dreams of those things. I don't remember right, but I feel like I've seen one or two movies with a very similar plot and that may have possibly been the inspirational source for this movie. Either way, it's an implausible story and too cliché to be worthy of any credit. The cast is another problem: betting on rookies and less talented actors, the interpretive and dramatic level is very low. The course of the film only worsens the first impressions, giving the impression that there is, in fact, no reason to exist for it. It's pointless and forgettable... and that is very bad.
