Bret Hart is shown playing this game with one of his kids in the documentary Wrestling with Shadows (1998)
A sequel was made the following year intended to originally be called "WWF Wrestlemania 2: the arcade" However the title became "WWF In Your House" and never saw an arcade port. It was only released on PlayStation X, Sega Saturn and MS DOS.
Bam Bam Bigelow appeared at the launching of this game to help promote it. Bret Hart also shot a small video that was available at launch, giving tips on game play.
The game started development in 1994. Explaining why some of the most popular 1995 WWF superstars like Deisel and Hunter Herst Helmsley (Triple-H) where not included when the game was released.
The SNES port was the only version to only have 6 of the 8 wrestlers in every other version. Excluded are Yokozuna and Bam Bam Bigelow.
Whilst being interviewed in 2012, one of the games top programmer, Sal Da Vita stated that there was to be a hidden wrestler, Adam Bomb. However he was never finished and Da Vita said there is no point to trying to unlock him, as it was beta programming and then scrapped. This does mean the characters sprites are somewhere in the games programming, but to this day no one has discovered them.
Is the first wrestling title have sprites created from motion capture. All appearing WWF superstars preformed all the actions for the game on a blue/green screen. However they did not provide their own voice clips, apart from the commentary of Vince MacMahon and Jerry The King Lawler who have sprites of them at the Commantary table of the arcade and DOS versions of the game.
Creator Mark Turmwell pitched the game as WWF meets NBA Jam and Mortal Kombat.
In 2013 a tribute game to the over the top antics of WMA was released under the tithe WWE Allstars. It turned the modern day wrestling game into a more arcade feel based on the premises of WMA.
Pictures arose on the internet of The Undertaker wearing red gloves and tie, as opposed to his signature purple or previous grey. It confused a lot of fans, making them wonder if they missed a time in 'Takers career where he wrestled in a red gloved attire? The photos are not from any wrestling match, nor has Taker ever wrestled in tgat attire. Midway got him to wear red instead of purple during the motion capture of Wrestlemania The Arcade (1995) because his signature purple would clash with the blue-screen backdrop they where using for the photo shoot. Red is easier to work with, and was later changed to purple via the color palette of the sprites during development!
The Cover contains 4 Videogame Characters and 4 real Wrestlers.
The Cover contains Razor Ramon, Bret Hitman Hart, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker.
Developers Mark Turmwell and Sal Devita appear as members of the crowed cheering in the front row.
The SNES version was the only version of the game where you could preform a continuos Sharp Shooter with Bret Hart until the clock ran out. It could only be executed outside of the ring with no countout/energy loss turned on and rapidly tapping the button that executes the Sharp Shooter.
Mr Fuji appears on the next match up screen (where the wrestler is running to his next opponent) when facing Yokozuna. He only appears on the arcade game as Yokozunas manager, but is not a playable character.
Playable: Doink, Bret "Hitman" Hart, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Lex Luger, Razor Ramon, Bam Bam Bigelow, Yokozuna. The latter 2 where not included on the SNES port.
The developers of this game also created Mortal Kombat. Plans where for this game to include fatalities but the WWF said not to include them as that is not something the WWF wanted to indorce in their video games. The only finisher that made it into the game was The Underakers which is only executable on the original arcade. No home ports included the finisher. The finisher itself is of The Undertaker throwing the opponent into a casket that rises from the canvas and slamming it shut before it disappears.
There was a large amount of rumours circulating the games release that their was hidden fatalities and wrestlers to be found. Tho the rumour such wrestlers as Ahmed Johnson, Triple-H and Kevin Nash where laid to rest by The developers as being in fact not true at all. They did reveal that they had planned to have finisher moves, but the WWF rejected the idea saying it's not the sort of thing they want to promote. Only the Underaker has a hidden finisher in the Arcade game where he uses mystical powers to push the loser into a casket, but no other version of this game features this finisher.
