Trailers "The Snare (2017)"
During a particularly intense scene Dan Paton agreed to be choked for real on set. He was given a penny and told to drop it if he was in danger. The first few takes were fine, but on the final one he couldn't breathe and the penny dropped. The crew panicked and rushed to his aid. He'd started to black out and was unaware of what had happened. The performance looked so convincing and horrific to watch that the take ended up being the final one in the film.
The director pretended to hide the remains of a dead spider in a box and brought it out onto set during particularly tense scenes, threatening to throw it at Eaoifa Forwards face if her performance wasn't convincing enough.
The director was not allowed to shoot with a tripod in Highgate cemetery so had to improvise by balancing the camera on the sound recordist's head.
In preparation for the film, the director locked the actors in a room together without any food, water, or mobile phones as a social experiment to see how they would cope and interact.
The director had planned to create a shattered mirror using sheets of reflective plastic, rather than smash one, through fear of superstition. However, time was short on set so he asked Tom Butler, the director of photography, if he'd be happy to just smash one. Butler, completely unfazed, grabbed the nearest lighting stand and wacked the mirror repeatedly until it shattered.
When shooting the forest scene the set was overran by spiders. To get back at the director for making her eat a live spider; Eaoifa Forward pretended there was a spider on his back. He panicked, jumping about, screaming at the Director of Photography to get it off, before realising that the whole thing was a setup.
To create intestines, the special effects makeup artist, Jo Barrass-Short, filled condoms with squashed bananas.
To cut down on costs, the director and his father built a camera dolly using a combination of MDF, aluminium and skateboard wheels with garden tubing for tracks.
During the middle of a scene from the latter part of the film where the characters are weak and sickly, the director took a rubbish sack filled with rotten food and held it over Dan Paton's face telling him to inhale, sending him into a nauseous, trance like state.
The beach scene was shot at Man o War Bay in Lulworth and took several attempts to shoot, due to the tide position and the inconsistency of the light. When the cast and crew returned to shoot the 2nd half of the scene a landslide had taken place, eerily enough over the exact position where they needed to film.
For several stunt shots, Rachel Warren's head was replaced by a watermelon.
Despite the fact that she was arachnophobic the director, C.A. Cooper, insisted that Eaoifa Forward place a live spider in her mouth. After the take, the spider refused to come out, trying to climb its way down the back of her throat.
During the scene with the maggots the director felt that the mood on set was too light, so he made the actors stand in a line and forced each of them to drink cold lumpy soup out of a tin until they began to feel nauseous.
The director, C.A. Cooper insisted on shooting the film chronologically with conditions on set becoming increasingly more intense and 'method' throughout. Towards the latter half of the film the actors were not allowed to talk to each other and were kept in separate rooms. Dan Paton often went hours without eating.
During the lead up to production Eaoifa Forward locked herself in a cupboard in the door for a whole day, with no food, water or contact with the outside world.
One of the shots of Carl and Alice in the first kitchen scene took 39 takes.
In preparation for the rape scene, Dan Paton drenched his shirt in balsamic vinegar and rubbed stilton cheese all under his fingernails, arm pits and in his mouth to make the experience as unpleasant as possible for Rachel Warren
