Janie Buell with encouragement from her mother has developed what appears to be a serious relationship with Stacey. Stacey is in a buggy accident with Janie resulting in a broken arm. The broken bones heal but the arm and hand are numb with no feeling or control. Dr. Spaulding calls in a specialist who believes a nerve in his shoulder was affected during the accident. He feels an operation is needed with no guarantee of success plus the chance of infection and losing the arm.
