» » Hannibal Oeuf (2013–2015)

Short summary

A series of family murders takes place, and Will determines they were conducted by each of the families' missing children, who were abducted and brainwashed into killing their old families for their "new family." Against Alana's advice, Hannibal checks Abigail out of the hospital for some frightening psychiatric practices that ultimately align her loyalty with him.

Mads Mikkelsen genuinely pricked his finger in the scene with the fishhook.

Oeuf is French meaning egg.

This episode was originally supposed to air in the USA on April 25, 2013, but it was pulled from the schedule on the recommendation of creator Bryan Fuller. An abbreviated multi-part version was posted to the NBC website. The full episode was later released through iTunes and appears on the home videos.

Jack Crawford's wife Bella is played by Gina Torres. When this episode was filmed she was married to Laurence Fishburne, the actor who plays Jack Crawford. The couple separated in 2016 with Fishburne filing for divorce in 2017.

The title Oeuf is a common misspelling of the French word for Egg, usually accepted for technical reasons when the ligature of O and E is not available (so both should be capitalized and ligatured). The ligatured o and e is of more common usage in French than it is in English and thus appears on French keyboards. That difficulty led NBC to make a further graphical mistake in the original titling of the episode, which was referenced as "Ceuf".

A rather degraded episode of the series, pretty disappointing as it is just the 4th episode. Also the fact of the supposed "child killing" was pretty hard to digest seeing the accuracy the murders were conducted with.

Families are being murdered in their houses. Meanwhile a debate as to Abigail's place of stay has arisen. With Abigail and Hannibal sharing on a little secret she easily agrees to move in with Hannibal. (We all know what's coming!).

A less philosophical and more of a simple plotted episode as one might argue. Also the introduction of one more serial killer just degrades the purpose of the series. Even if they have to introduce one, a better one could have been introduced. Also the episode was a little low on the trademark "gore imagery". Hannibal's taking in Abigail and conducting various experiments on her seems like feeding your pray to it's full before the kill. Anyways I don't suppose he is going to eat her anywhere soon as it might give him away. While its obvious he will eat her in the future. Will on the other hand seems to be having personality disorders as he was afraid. While he is still conscious about his being, but he is afraid he might give in and turn completely. Freddy looks for a direct approach which is a little "unrealistic" as you can't just threat a supposed FBI Agent just like that.

    Direction: Average.

    Screenplay/Story: Average.

Acting: Dancy Mads and Kacey are good, child artists are nice rest are just fine.

    Music: Good.

Overall a lesser episode, still watchable.

The Killer that influences kids. The story is fantastic and it is narrated beautifully. Hugh Dancy is fantastic in all his scenes. The reconstruction of crime scenes is shot brilliantly. I am enjoying every bit of this. Fantastic show. Hannibal could not have been explored better. Mads Mikkelsen looks every bit of the spine chilling serial killer and Kacey Rohl as Abigail Hobbs plays the prey beautifully..

I love this show so far but this plot makes no sense. How can kids listen to anyone and kill their family? Ok maybe 1 kid but 3?

I disagree with those that do not think this episode was just as good, the story and the acting is still very top notch with the exclusion of how the killer of the week story was executed. For not being one of the finer episodes due to it slowly building up it is still one top episode compared to other series.
