Short summary

Taking a job at the Schooner Bay Beacon, Carolyn finds herself overworked by the editor. The Captain misses her, and has never forgiven the Beacon's inaccurate reporting of his death.

One of Richard Dreyfus' first roles was on the television series, Peyton Place, in 1965--a few years before his appearance in this episode of The Ghost & Mrs. Muir. Years before she took the part of Mrs. Muir, Hope Lange was largely known (and got an Oscar nomination) for her role in Peyton Place, the movie.

Mrs. Muir (Hope Lange) takes a job at the Schooner Bay Beacon newspaper as the second of a two-person team under young publisher Mark Finley (Richard Dreyfuss, "Jaws", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind "). He has Mrs. Muir do everything, and she begins growing tired of the job while the Captain (Edward Mulhare) grows lonesome at home. When comedic mistakes make the paper, Mrs. Muir gets the blame- but knows where the blame should be placed. The Captain also holds resentment toward Finley's great-grandfather Luscious printing in the paper that his death was a suicide and not the accident that it was. Young Mr. Finley insists on proof before making the century-old correction. The Captain goes in search of the death records- kept by Claymore (Charles Nelson Reilly)- and puts his own touch on things once again.
