The title refers to a mythical bird with colorful plumage that lives for 500 to 1,000 years. At the end of it's life, the phoenix builds a nest of twigs which ignites consuming both the bird and the nest and a new phoenix arises from the ashes.

Lindsay Bloom (Bonnie ) and K.C. Winkler (Melinda) were both in the movie H.O.T.S. a few years earlier. In H.O.T.S., Lindsay Bloom and K.C. Winkler played the leader and second-in-command of the sorority PI. There was no on-screen reunion with Lindsay Bloom and K.C. Winkler in this Dallas episode as they were in separate scenes.
