Beau Deason is a small time rancher in rural Virginia living the everyday grind of making ends meet. His wife Diane, is suffering from kidney failure and undergoing dialysis, while his oldest daughter is approaching her high school graduation. With hospital bills mounting and college looming, Beau is hard pressed for the finances needed to support his family. When his troubled brother Rainey, a coal miner and speed freak, approaches him with an opportunity too good to turn down. Before things materialize Beau gets word of a mine collapse and his brothers apparent death. The events leading up to the collapse don't add up and Beau starts asking questions.
