Maverick lives on in 'Riverboat', which sees Brisco exchanges his gun for the long con. Part of the fun of this one is just seeing Bruce Campbell in Southern gentleman threads, and he makes a great card cheat, going up against Xander Berkeley (the "gentlemanliest" of the Bly gang, lethal intent masked by oozing charm). With everyone's role in the grand swindle - Dixie's subterfuge, Bowler's boxing match, Brisco helping out a fellow wronged man - there's a lot going on here. But it all comes together with a neat twist at the end, and it was a fun voyage.

Brisco meets up with on of John Bly's men, Brett Bones (the most gentlemanly outlaw) who controls a town and has a gambling on his riverboat. The reason for being there is to rescue Socrates Poole, who in the spirit of trying new things to experience life gets into debt gambling. Brisco comes up with a plan to capture Brett Bones with the help of Lord Bowler & Dixie Cousins. Brisco comes up with an alias Roscoe Merriweather, this is reminiscent of the old series Maverick. Wylie Turner a cloth manufacturer who also has a beef with Brett Bones joins Brisco and uses his miracle cloth which is as strong as steel but soft as a baby's bottom to raise the money to trap Brett Bones.

*Spoiler/plot- Riverboat, eps 6, TV air date 10/1/93. Brisco runs into parts of the Blye gang using a riverboat for a cover. Gambling debt produces drama. And he corrects the problem.

*Special Stars- Bruce Campbell, Julius Carry, Christian Clemenson, Kelly Rutherford.

*Theme- Logical thinking and deduction can help criminal investigations.

*Trivia/location/goofs- The town scenes were in the old Warner Brother's Laredo western Street on the studio back lot. That has been demolished and rebuilt as office space for rentals.

*Emotion- An episode with little or no sci-fi or fantasy plot elements, and as such the plot seemed very slow and plodding. Not enough surprise, action, comedy or drama. Pedestrian western fare.

*Based on- The producers and writers wanted to recreate the entertainment of the 30s-50s theatrical cliff-hanger film serials. Most were westerns or sci-fi. They succeeded.
