Short summary

Frank, middle-aged, alone and demeaned by his controlling mother - fights to achieve his dream. To do the difficult thing. To kill his enemy in a violent painful death - and to restore justice to the world.

The film was shot using donated film stock, left-over from the Paul Greengrass movie Captain Phillips (2013).

The film crew were completely unaware Andy Nyman wasn't actually Scottish. He spoke in a Scottish accent throughout the shoot, and was so convincing that when Nyman answered a phone call in his own English accent between takes, the crew assumed his native accent was actually a joke. He eventually convinced the crew he wasn't actually Scottish, just a good actor.

Frank's story has parallels with a real-life bomb-plot in the town of Kilwinning, where an individual identifying as protestant, sent homemade parcel bombs to Scottish Catholics. The wall-box used by Frank in the film, is in fact the exact wall-box where devices were posted.

Loyal has received two nominations for the BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards.
