Once again writer Roy Clarke has to replace actor Brian Wilde who played Foggy. Again he has to do it by way of a double playing Foggy. We were told that Brian Wilde had shingles. He would never return to the show, not even for Compo's funeral episode. I always sensed that there was more to do with Wilde's departure than a bout of shingles.

Foggy's double spends the rest of this episode being drunk and passed out, put on a back of a wagon until an amorous postwoman takes the double and delivers him and herself to Blackpool. Foggy is never seen again.

There goes the Groom, is a retread of Uncle of the Bride. The episode which introduced Foggy's first replacement, Seymour.

Here we are introduced to 'Truly of the Yard' played by Frank Thornton. Legendary ex policeman and unhappily married for years. A much better and more believable character than Seymour and I could sense Thornton grasping his opportunity with relish. It is the first time I have seen him play a non-snooty character.

Compo, Clegg and Truly have frightened the groom with stories of non-marital bliss. The groom has done a runner and they need to track him down. Meanwhile Barry who is the best man and got drunk with the others the night before, needs to figure out what he did with the wedding ring.

Very little that is original here, even the bride is related to Edie and Wesley again. What is more I could never fathom why the groom is played by an actor who looks about 40 under good lighting. It is like Barry in Uncle of the Bride, getting an actor who is middle aged to play someone much younger.

Still Smiler getting fleeced again by Auntie Wainwright and Eli being the wedding photographer is fun.
