"Monsterland" is another horror anthology about ghoulies, ghosties, and long-legged beasties, and things that go bump in the night. Too bad it isn't better than what it advertises.

There are a couple of tales that work; the majority do not. That is not to say, however, that the people involved with this film did not try different things. I applaud that--I didn't care for most of what they did, but at least it wasn't about another camping trip of death. My two favorite segments were "Grey Matter" and "Hag." In "Grey Matter" you had a talking parasite that lives on brains, and "Hag" was, well, kinda' creepy. Other than those two, I thought the movie fell on its face.

Rated "R" for violence and brief nudity, "Monsterland" is not a destination you should waste your time on. Besides, it will probably be billed as a "Chiller" feature debut anytime now.

This movie was a thoroughly enjoyable roller coaster ride for a monster fan such as myself. I haven't enjoyed a film this much since I was a child growing up on classic monster films. I feel it to be a film worthy of recognition in the horror/monster anthology genre.

Now I will say that a lot of what lies within this film may not be for everyone, especially the squeamish. The violence is graphic & even the overall plot of some of the stories may be considered disturbing to some. In my opinion these attributes were part of the charm, but proceed with caution especially with kids around.

Yet if you enjoy a good monster flick, whether horrific & terrifying, or campy & silly, then this film should do justice for you, as there is no shortage of surprises in this film. I loved it enough not mind returning to Monsterland (cough-sequel?!)

This is a series of campy shorts. During a monster attack, a man sits in a movie theater and makes me crave popcorn. He watches on the screen a number of short features, campy with a twist. There was a puppet sequence at about an hour into the film I could have done without. In 1958 Iran was a US ally, and not a Russian ally...just saying. The animated monster hunter was similar to a man in "The City of Rott" which used the same type of animation. If you like camp and Creepshow, give it a view, I am sure one bit will make you smile. Shorts include a parasite in a man's head, mutant Jellyfish, a man with nursing breasts, vampire at dentist, kids skinny dipping, radioactive rat, and a hag.
