Short summary

Rimmer plans to move up the career ladder - using extremely dubious means. He gains access to Red Dwarf's confidential files, and then takes up the opportunity when he is invited to dinner with the Captain and the senior officers. To make the evening go with a swing, he douses himself with a "sexual magnetism virus" which will make him irresistible to the female crew. In the meantime, Kryten has to come to terms with the fact that he has been classified as a woman due to his lack of male sex organs.

One of the extras in the London street scenes is wearing an Ace Rimmer t-shirt.

The Carbug is actually a customized Smart Fortwo. Smarts only have two seats so in the long shots of the Carbug driving down the road, only Craig Charles and Danny John-Jules are actually in the car. For close-ups the seats were removed and the four Dwarfers are actually sitting on boxes.

They Walk Among Us! is a real comic book shop in Richmond, London.

Craig Charles suggested that any reference to 2009 be removed from the script to avoid the series from becoming dated. The time frame is instead referred to as "the early 21st century".

The shots of the Carbug driving on the road were filmed in at Qinetiq headquarters in Farnborough, Hampshire. The Carbug was not street-legal so it could not be driven in London.

A scene was written in which Lister enjoys being back on Earth by observing human behavior. But due to time constraints it was not filmed.

Cat leaving a piece of origami in the TV shop is a nod to Bladerunner and is the start of a whole Bladerunner theme.

Associate producer Andrew Ellard came up with the idea of Rimmer pushing Katerina into oncoming traffic. The earliest draft did not include Katerina after the first episode. A later draft had Rimmer persuading a security guard to have her arrested for causing damage to the department store.

Since not many people find the only comment currently available to be useful, I'll just say a few words until someone writes something better.

Out of the three new episodes, I liked this one the best. It was pretty funny, but also smart (if a bit recycling). Most importantly, it had a soul, the main ingredient of all the RD episodes. One of the scenes made me laugh until I lost my breath, and I can't remember when was the last time that happened.

In my opinion, Red Drawf had a much better comeback than Futurama, and I'm glad it wasn't a full-length movie, those always suck.

I don't normally write comments, but I felt I had to when I saw the average score given to this series and episode - no smugging way (I can't believe the swearing filter includes Red Dwarf's favourite expletive)! It's true that some of the early bits of this episode were a bit too off-the-shelf, but it had one scene, near the end, which had me rolling around with laughter (probably shows how immature I am, but I don't care).

And another thing - it REALLY annoys me how people give a show scores of 1, 2 or 3 which it clearly doesn't deserve. What it really means is that they loved the earlier series and hate anything that could crack it out of the casing of amber they've created around their old memories of it, and expose them to the light of a new day. They can't accept giving it a 5/6/7/8 and letting their opinion be subsumed into the average, because they're SPECIAL and know best. I was tempted to give it a 10 to counterbalance them, but I thought honesty was the better policy. Disengaging rant-mode. Sorry.

Actually it's pretty good considering their time away from the screen. They're not as ring-rusty as you'd expect, and there're signs of the old magic in there. If they make another series I'll certainly give it a chance, and if they can raise the bar just a tiny bit from this one, I'll be very pleased to welcome Red Dwarf back from the dead.

This was awful !! This actually made me angry to watch as I'm a big fan of red dwarf and I feel they didn't even try to make it live up to the old red Dwarf we all know and love.

To be honest the plot was OK, it needed a bit of hamming up but it was alright. The script however was absolute tripe. I found myself anxious and frowning whilst watching this.

    1) It wasn't funny at all.

    2) The acting was tired terrible from all the cast apart from Kryten.

    3) The Scipt was lame & terrible.

    4) The story constantly contradicted itself and no care was taken to make sure this wasn't the case.

    4) The camera work was lazy.

    5) The editing was so very sloppy and special effects were not needed.

    6) The casting for all the other characters was SHITE !!! Infarct, the only good casting there was were the two kids on the bus. Their acting outdid all the rest of the cast !! It was a rubbish tired old disaster..!!! An insult to the series !! If they make more red dwarf they should watch the stuff they made in the 90's as thats when i feel red dwarf was at its best.

I've tried over the last several years to rewatch this hoping I'd be in a different state of mind and therefore understand it. Part 1 I get. But then I can't make head nor take of it. And I understand Einstein's special relativity. It makes no sense. In the past there have been inconsistencies but I've loved them in the greater scheme if things. BUT THIS IS A PILE OF CRAP
